Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Glad to see there were network issues yesterday. Purchased a 4MB uncapped package recently and wasn't a good start, today however is much better.

EDIT: Btw, the clientzone page doesn't load on Chrome for iOS on my iPad. Runs fine on Safari though, would be nice to have it working on Chrome too because it's my default browser now.

There seem to be issues whenever there is a Chrome update, we're busy trying to get a workable solution for this. We don't want to compromise security and privacy features for ClientZone, etc.

Hi there Afriman,

So is there a specific amount of usage you get to before you get throttled or is it a completely flexible thing? I am on 190 gigs this month and probably about 300 gigs in the last 30 days and have noticed this evening that my internet has slowed quite a bit, but not to a complete crawl yet. I am on a 10 mb line and 4mb uncapped account. Usually i get about 400-500kb/s but it seems to have slowed to about 100-150kb/s today. I am just curious as to if there is a specific total (in the last 30 days) before you get throttled, or if it is dependant on total network traffic.

boggs

EDIT: PS, you guys are still way better than mweb ever was for me, so I'm not complaining, just curious.

That sounds like it could be throttling...

Check your last 30 days via the data logs.

Ya so it's 342 gigs and counting... no answer to my question though.

EDIT:

A normal 4Mbps Uncapped will cost you R397 per month. You can do about 280GB+ before you get throttled, depending on network congestion and traffic. This is over a 30 day rolling period (not necessarily from month to month)

nevermind, NOOBALERT! should have read back a couple of posts...

EDIT2:

Still got about 100gigs worth of stuff in the queue so this could take a while. On the other hand my usage for the end of last month was quite low so maybe I get "unthrottled" again in a few days, who knows.

Chugging nicely along. Usage is now over 8Gb's.

25.220 GB at the time of writing.

1Mb uncapped.

Still going strong.

It is lovely not to worry when you'll be capped. Excellent stuff.

(if I keep it up, I might make 50Gb's before the end of the month at this rate... ) :p

And a 1Mbps account?

Check your bandwidth usage report in ClientZone, should give you an idea. Otherwise you can download that actual data logs (also in CZ) and work it out in Exel.

Not impressed with speed on 10Mbps Account

Got my new Adsl line installed on the weekend. On an 10Mbps uncapped bundle from Afrihost... Not impressed with the speeds. ..On the weekend 3-4 Mbps download, while the upload is as slow as 0.4Mbps on average... Come Monday morning, download-speed drops by 50%, as well as ping :( . Video streaming is virtually impossible....

Definitely does not look right, we'll have to look into this ASAP. Please send me a DM with your username.

Hey

If you do hit the throttle limit (which I think I did) how long does it take to reset? Does 30 day rolling mean it will only reset in 30 days? Or when your previous 30 days go under the throttle limit? Its kinda slow now :) But awesome product in general, especially at this price.

I am using the 10meg uncapped product (not the bundle version) have only used 62Gig so far however since yesterday I have seen a dramatic slowdown in my browsing experience. I mainly use Youtube and Steam. Purchased a few games off their sale. Took 5 hours to download Two Worlds 2 but I just accepted it as high user ratios due to the sale.

I have also connected my Android devices to my wireless router and this is where I found something strange.
I have a media server running with Plex Media Server on it. I liked the app so much I decided I would purchase the Plex media player for my Android phone and media player. So off I go to the Google play store on using my Android Media Player.
I try purchasing the software and keep on getting a connection time out. I then try purchase it for my Galaxy Note and I get the same issue.
I tried this throughout the weekend and this morning. No luck.

I go to work this morning and connect wirelessly to our office router (Afrihost Capped account)and suddenly I am able to complete the transaction.
I get home this afternoon and try update my Android media player and still have the same issue where it times out. I then switch accounts back to my Telkom account and I am able to complete the transaction.
I find this strange that I can’t do it via Afrihost uncapped but can via Telkom.

I have experienced the same issue in some games that require online activation. What could be the cause of this ?
For now I am sticking to my Telkom account. I never had this issue on Web Africa.
Hope someone else has experienced something similar.

Horrible pings tonight. My line has never been this bad before.
