Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Well my speeds are certainly better compared to last week.

Can't complain with that on a weekday.

I'd love to hear some of this "positive feedback" from the actual users re. the rAGE uncapped accounts on MTN's network... Anyone here one of the lucky few?
 
I'm also experiencing around 25%-50% line capacity on my 4Mbps account today.....

Local Traffic Speed Test - 1.3Mbps
International Traffic Speed Test - 1.19Mbps

Not cool at all.

Really slow speeds on my 10Mbit/s line too, also in Cape Town (Newlands).

Going at about 3.5Mbit/s currently.

Speeds improved temporarily after the IPC "upgrade", however they deteriorated again slowly after that. Not sure how things were on the weekend but has been atrocious the entire day.

What's going on Afriman?
 
Clearly there is something horribly wrong, somewhere. Its not possible for so many people to be having the same issues.
 
Maybe this heat melted something somewhere :-P
Would be nice if someone actually responded to all these slow speeds mentioned.

Not to mention, their website still claims "Network Fully Operational"

That's the part that gets me. Surely your network is not fully operational if this amount of people are bitching about performance.
 
Too many speedtests.net results and not enough real world performance figures.

I've seen it time and time again where my download manager paints a very different picture to a straight speedtest.net result.

Gets me as well, because we all know it's not true.

I also assumed that if 100 x 10mb DSL users moved to, say Mweb, that would free up some capacity and make my experience better :)
 
There is nothing wrong with the Afrihost network. They are just throtteling all the Uncapped clients heavily. Look at my speedtests. Comparison beteen Uncapped and Capped Accounts. Both Afrihost.

Which they only do when there is congestion, to ensure business and capped get full value. So there is something wrong with the network i.e. the contention ratio is too high. Don't think it is their intention to p#ss off 1000's of paying uncapped users, maybe it's bad capacity planning...

Yup, similar results here comparing my 4mb uncapped vs 1GB free capped account. Capped acc runs full speed. 4mb account is heavily throttled.
