Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

The main issue here is we are paying for a service which worked great until this move and now we are forced to pay for the same service and we have to live with the problems that comes with it. why not give your customer the choice of switching between networks until the new network is fully operational and ready for prime time.

Diablo 3 was the worst it has ever been yesterday. I got home at about 18h00 and tried to play, but nearly pulled my hair out in frustration. After dying 10-20 times from jumping around all over the place, I'd had enough.

What I've done now is dialled up a second PPPoE account with FNB Connect and I route all port 1119 traffic through that. Back to 210ms pings for me in Diablo.

I'm very disappointed that I've had to resort to this, and I am one of the lucky ones who has a backup account and a router capable of doing this. I only hope that other people with the same problem have the patience to wait for Afrihost to fix this issue before jumping ship. I heard that when MWEB launched their uncapped product, they spent many man-hours tweaking their network for gaming, so there are obviously quite a few things that need to be considered and the Afrihost network is still very new. But Afrihost have GOT to take this seriously and invest the time in sorting it out like MWEB did if they are to be the "premium network" they aspire to be.

Point taken, we do obviously take this seriously and your feedback is important to us. We had to move faster than originally planned for a variety of reasons, but we had hoped to have most technical issues resolved. It's a learning curve for us, as we've relied on IS in the past to tweak the network for best QoS. We are now directly responsible for this, and it's taking us a while to get to the level where we want to be. My point is this, reading a book about golf doesn't mean you can go head to head with Tiger Woods. You have to get out there and do it, maybe trip and fall a few times, but with support and determination, you can prevail. There is only so much research and planning that could be done on a brand new network. We had to take off the training wheels and get it out there, to be able to make it into the great backbone we are aiming for.

Hope this makes sense, I've been ranting a lot lately :)

You cannot give us a short guide on how to accomplish this?

It is really frustrating to change the user name and password in the router every time you want to play and to remember to change it back afterwards.

Nice, so you get to go out with your training wheels at your customers expense? I'm still paying the same price I paid two months ago for a fraction of the internet joy I used to experience. At least MWEB gave out free and half price ADSL back in April 2010 when they were still "testing" their network. I'll be sure to not vote for you again for ISP of the year, as you certainly don't deserve it, next year and will make sure to remind everyone here about the current crap service you giving your customers come voting time next year.

Penquin, where were you when Afrihost was handing out free accounts before they went live? They had some at Rage and AfriMan was handing them out on the forum too!
How can testing be done without the network being busy in real live terms anyway. I have had a great service from Afrihost on the new network, at least better than IS for me......but.....It will only help us and the other users if we submit the issues to AfriMan so that they can sort them out as quickly as possible and so-far-so-good seeing as the network is only 2 and a bit weeks old. :)

For the record, I'm on the 10mb uncapped bundle in Durban, and my Diablo III ping sits comfortably around 230ms

I'm not a gamer, so pings does not bother me. I know I cancelled my AH account and it ends tonight. But I must say that P2P speeds on my 1mb line is more than adequate. I did 5-7gb a day easily for the last 5 days. Daytime P2P speed is between 50-75% of fullspeed. I cannot complain about that.

HTTP browsing is a lot better also. I'm seriously considering getting the 1mb bundle for R297.

How often do you play? I am in Durban, and I would LOVE to look you up in-game when the latency goes to ***** so we can compare! I play practically every evening and that is when it's at its worst. I can play on weekends without issue, so I am guessing that you simply haven't played for extended periods of time during the worst of it.

For those wanting a "guide", I'd be happy to help, assuming you have a Mikrotik router and a second ADSL account.

I have an Axxess account, but since they don't seem to have a rep I'll ask here. The latency in Diablo was terrible yesterday. Very unstable and pings ranged from 400ms upward. This morning up to around 13:00 things were great with pings at around 250ms and the very occasional jump to 300-400ms. Now it's a completely different story. Pings are terrible. At the lowest around 500ms and the majority of time at 1200ms.

I'm not running any other downloads, so why the sudden change?

I've noticed that the network status is now green and fully operational yet I'm still ave 250KB/s on a 4mbps line.

All the Afrihost support do is reset my line.... Isn't that why you added the fix line option in client zone so I could do that myself should the need arise?

Wish they would actually look deeper into client issues than just resetting a line and hopping for the best. Now I must wait another 24h with crap speeds!

Great! 240ms pings and 190KB/s and I'm 300km from JHB on a 4Mbps line! And the network status on the website is green.

Another R697 down the drain this month and we are expected to just smile & wave... Afriman if this is not sorted out by tomorrow I'm canceling my subscription. I've had enough of promises that the MTN network will be so much better yet we are back in the same situation when IS was playing up.

Please also notify support the resetting the line is not the answer to all problems. I reported this yesterday already and all they have done is reset my line. 1 day later and I'm still sitting in the same boat and it's just getting worse.

Local ping tonight is +200ms.
Yesterday it was 30ms.
Afrihost website reports that all is functioning well. What's up with that?

Dont try [ Fix you Line ]. Doesnt work for ****. Now I cant even log on with any of my accounts. no packets coming back from the exchange ....

Been waiting for their helpdesk line from 19H55 ....
I started on caller number 17 , was eventually answered after 1h15

My problem also started with 200+ ms local ping :/ and 400 to 500ms int ping

Maybe employ someone who has done it before then ... Then you wouldnt have to read the f... book

Exactly... Yet the network is full operational.

I was kindly offered a account to get me up and running by MrBeep. Thanks very much :) for the offer but I cant use any ISP acct now after trying [ FiX My Line ]

I am seriously regretting bundling my adsl line with AH. I can see them being added as a new name in my signature.

Still on hold with AH helpdesk . seriously how many drones do they have.... 1 hour to do 15 callers ....

I am with AH and dont have my line with them - its with telkom. I also have the high latency as do some people on mweb, so I think its a wider issue. The helpdesk will likely be able to do nothing.
