Is that not your iPhone browser using a UK based proxy / cache? Or perhaps the app working off a cache of sorts... wonder what it does on another ISP?

Perhaps that parly explains the Windows 8 download issues peeps are having - trying to download Windows 8 for our market via UK proxy?

This is what I get since aroun Friday afternoon on 4MB uncapped...

Thanks but no thanks to MTN... Never had such issues with IS for month. :-(

Btw. Speed-test on http://capetown.spdtst.saix.net/ shows better ping, yet bad speeds as well:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 986 kbps (123.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 413 kbps (51.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 44 ms

Server... LONDON!

Afrihost you are killing your uncapped business model. Uncapped rely on a majority of light to moderate users to subsidize a minority of high usage customers. Your new shaping policy however is punishing everyone regardless of usage. I currently get full speed (3.2Mbit/s) on my Afrihost capped 1gig free account while I get about 0.8Mbit/s on my uncapped account on a 4Mb line.
I am sure a lot of users like myself would prefer the accounts to run the way they did on the IS network - to run at full speed regardless of what you are doing until you reach the fair usage limit and then to get throttled. This uncapped account of mine was perfect from May when I first got it until the switch-over to MTN. I cancelled my RedAfrica 150 gig @ R199 based on the performance I got from this account in May and June. I could _____ cry! The kind of shaping you are doing tonight will drive away light to moderate users to other ISPs while the heavy users who are happy to download and seed 24/7 at reduced speed will tend to stay.

Actually no.

Only when enough left then maybe this lesson would be learnt: Pretest, move over a few clients first and do not **** with your clients.

But you guys keep on supporting this model: Shoot from the hip, because all would be forgiven.

Couldn't agree more!!

Well I'm tired of this nonsense. I'm moving over to another ISP tomorrow morning. Afriman has been great in helping me and everyone on the forums, but unfortunately it looks like no one else at Afrihost seems to care (including Gian).

I think the worst part is that the is a lack of communication. If Afrihost sent out emails saying that they're having problems, and that they we should bare with them, then I would be more understanding. But I haven't heard anything from anyone (besides Afriman), so I going to assume that this is their new business model.

I think the only way you can get Afrihost to take some drastic action is take your money and internet needs elsewhere (as Prophet has bluntly pointed out).

+1

I've said this from the start. Their communication is really bad at the moment.

Afriman helped me when I PM'd him. Support now ignores me it seems. Afrihost on Twitter also ignored me.

Also being throttled/shaped/whatever... BEING SLOWED DOWN. Can't do anything. 2mb account is now <1mb...

Just after I was singing Afrihost's praises... Oh the irony.

Sigh...

Why does this always happen when I sign up for a new ISP. Does that money back guarantee thing still work with Bundled packages?

If this BS does not get resolved quickly, I'm cancelling my account and demanding the 60-day money back guarantee. Getting 0.86mbps on a 4mb uncapped account, with only 20GB used for the month! UNACCEPTABLE AfriHost!!!!!!

Afrihost made a lot of friends with the excellent performance and value of these accounts from May until the switch to the MTN network. I think many of us still want to believe that the performance we got on the IS network is the way Afrihost wants these accounts to run and are prepared to wait a few days to see if they get restored to what they were before the switch. Unfortunately we have all paid for the month so cancelling now will only take effect from next month. Surely Afrihost must realize that they risk a flood of cancellations closer to the end of the month if they don't do something urgent. I am all for punishing a service provider for bad service and fully intend to cancel before the end of the month if it stays like this. Does anyone know if it is possible to cancel now and then perhaps if normal service is restored to stop the cancellation via client zone?

Just cancelled my subscription. I contacted Afrihost's accounts department yesterday regarding the 60-day money back guarantee but I'm still waiting for a response.

Same bull**** 1mb speed on a 4mb line. Couldn't stream YouTube and access fnb online banking couple days ago.. Had to switch to my fnb connect account just to do basic browsing .. If things do not pick up in the next week, good bye afrihost! Just feel sorry for all the people I recommend!

Edit: 7.9gb downloaded so far
