i honestly CBA with local, local doesn't really define much seriously... most websites visited are international and herein lies the speed issues.. gaming locally also doesnt seem to suffer, my son plays PS3 on local and still has an awesome connection, but WoW, D3, Dota2, SWTOR is pitiful...... connection runs for abouts 20-30mins, does a mini dc and alas we are dead.. was playing WoW had ingame of 209ms (best since changeover - prior change over 164ms), thought excellent but then urghhhh lag spike and dc... cant even access the login anymore...
pay for a 4mb line, this is what i am getting

Test conducted on 10 November 2012 15:44

Excuse the ignorance here. Just do a speed test to another provider or actually connect to another provider?

use another providers account to connect and test.. so basically get a trial from say Mweb and see how that sppedtest runs against your current Afrihost account.. if there is major differences then its ISP, else line

10mb uncapped, Durban

Downloading a file from Astraweb, and for the first time since the move I'm seeing the old familiar (and acceptable) shaping behaviour that I know from the IS days: Full speed for about 30 seconds (1mBps), then dip down to about 300kBps for a second or two, then back up to full speed for another 30 seconds.

Pings are acceptable, getting expected speeds from all speedtests, and YouTube is performing like a champ (for the most part)

Looks like things are starting to shape up

Just got disconnected. After reconnecting everything is slower. Not throttled per se, but overall worse performance. Can't buffer 1080p YouTube. Speedtest reports 6.7mbit (30ms ping from Durban to Jhb MTN).

Side note: I've just noticed that speedtest.net now recognizes my IP range as belonging to 'MTN Business Solutions (Pty) Ltd', as opposed to 'unknown ISP' or whatever it used to say - Not sure when that happened, but thats another step in the right direction :)

Traceroute to local .co.za IP? Can you do it and post output?

Performance is still terrible latency is through the roof for gaming.
