Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

@afriman it was better this weekend for me but beeing shaped to half my line speed still leaves me wondering if I should wait untill afrihosts speeds improve or if I should be looking at plugg's offer. A big sellpoint is their 2 concurrent connection to one account offer. Will afrihost offer the same?

So judging by the small number of PM's this weekend (sorry I wasn't online), seems like things are getting better and more stable :).........

Or people are getting tired of complaining.

I must day, I'm one of the "peeps" that jumped ship to, cough, MWEB. My experience has been terrible with them also. I'm still a capped AH user. But even with this account, YouTube sucks for example. HTTP, very slow.
I know my exchange is congested and my attenuation is 61 at the moment, luckily I don't get line drops on my 1meg line. At least they are busy upgrading the exchange. New cables are nearly complete. I can only hope.

Both of those. :) Went to a dinner over the weekend and without bringing it up, someone told me how they cancelled their Afrihost account because of horrible speeds.

Saying that, my speeds have been ok. Sometimes it dies a bit, but it picks up again. Seems to be getting better though.

I gave up on Friday, on the download speeds and network speeds, going up and down.... So i'm gona sit, test and wait.
No more complaining for me .......

Afrihost are having fun shaping our bandwidth , they dont seem to shape our monthly payment accordingly however :o

I still cannot get over 0.8mb on my 4mb line, since the change over,,, have logged a line fault issue (even though other ISP seem to get about 2.5 - 3.5), that was so long ago now i think they have forgotten about me...

My line is completely dead since Friday night. Sync light keeps flashing and nothing I do helps!
A ticket was created with Afrihost (& Telkom), but still nothing :(

Does your phone line still work? Do you have a pots filter? Try removing it - they go bad sometimes.

+1, we continue to pay premium prices to be able to check our email, stream youtube and browse websites.

oh joy of joys. just in time for christmas too.

Premium? wtf? Cheapest uncapped bundles out there...

Unfortunately, any price we pay for uncapped in South Africa is "premium".

"Premium pricing is the practice of keeping the price of a product or service artificially high in order to encourage favorable perceptions among buyers, based solely on the price"

I would rather pay a "premium price" to an ISP who will allow me to update my windows and download my steam games at speeds that I am paying for. If I wanted a 2mbp/s uncapped account to download with, I would get one. Instead I'm paying for a 10mbp/s line and getting a 2mbp/s line.

Afrihost seriously needs to stop this throttling nonsense. 40GBs done this month and I'm reduced to 60KB/s on my 2mb line. I'm giving afrihost one more month then I'm switching.

We're certainly not artificially inflating prices - in fact we subsidise bandwidth to bring prices down. I don't think that applies to us :)

We definitely want to give everyone on the network a fair shake. If downloads account for 2/3 of the bandwidth used and we're moving 23% more than we did in the previous month with IS, I think that's an indication that as a whole we're delivering more GB's for the same price. Having said that, we're still doing everything we can to give more priority to downloads where we can, and we've devoted massive development time into looking at more dynamic shaping methodologies that can do this in real time.

We're moving away from throttling we are currently using shaping to improve Quality of Service. This means that downloads are de-prioritised to deliver the best performance to real time services like gaming and streaming. We must control download capacity as this impacts latencies on the network, but having said that we are increasing download capacity at every opportunity to give better throughput on torrents and nzb's.

Why would your subscribers combined, suddenly move 23% more data than last month, even with the reduced bandwidth most of us have been getting?

EDIT: You also mentioned in the beginning, that with almost all your clients moved over, you were running at about 60% capacity, have Afrihost now ran out of capacity? Surely you couldn't have had that many new subscribers this month?

That question still, will not be answered. It has been asked in a 100 different ways

No I means people got gatvol complaining for about 20 days now and still problems is persisting.
The other half allready moved other service providers.
U guys supposedly working day and night to fix the problem, take a 5min break and look at your cancellation department, they working harder than the support team at the moment.

They like spinning made up figures to pretend like all is ok and better than before. Would like to see how many fools gonna stay with them for another month of abuse.
