Did anyone else's connection die around 10pm last night?
My router couldn't get a default gateway IP. Thankfully, it is magically working this morning.

Telkom fixed my line, but now they are blaming my Router for the problems!
Tech came, checked everything & reset my router, left, came back, reset my router again! and left to check the exchange again.
A while later the line was syncing and ADSL working, but tech wants to charge me unnecessary call out fee because it was my routers fail.
Bloody Telkom!!!!
But now after my "router was fix", my speed is throttled to 1Mbps (on 4Mbps line) no matter what I do.
Youtube streaming is caching every couple of seconds, normal http download are ****ty, steam download even worse, and then we are not even talking about NZB/Torrent
This general QoS system Afrihost have now is not really working.
So your line has been worked on your router replaced and you still getting really bad connection, what does that tell you?

My Speeds seems to have improved marginally over night, from the last few days 4-10KB/s jumping to 20-30KB/s on p2p on my 1meg line. Again, I do get the throttling of certain protocols but getting less than 40-50% of line speed is overkill.
I am less unhappy this morning...

That's progress, right?![]()

My problem and I'm sure allot of other people feel the same is that we went from a perfectly stable network (I don't download that much) where we had close to our advertised speeds 95% of the time to one that has been plagued by disconnects and really bad performance. Shaping everyone from the 1st mb and then calling it QoS and expecting people to be happy with it wont work.
I have now.
<sarcasm>
Is Sheepy the one setting up the QoS?

I hear what you are saying, and I won't pretend that the current situation is ideal. But today is a little better than yesterday, which is much better than last week, and 400% better than the week before. We left a network which had been established over many years, and we're setting something up over a matter of weeks. If you look at how far and how quickly we've progressed, we're definitely headed in the right direction.

A nice corporate answer AfriMan, but I suspect what grapjas is saying - and what I agree with - is that a return to that type of scenario should be the goal. The IS network was fine 99% of the time apart from slightly elevated pings; in terms of speed, regardless of protocol, one couldn't really complain unless one had been naughty in terms of volume downloaded.
That's all we want again...
