No, Afriman, I'm going to have to disagree here. You say;

So, why do these people then not go for cheaper uncapped accounts such as Axxess' JustSurf or Openweb's Vanilla Uncapped, which will fulfil all these needs at a much cheaper price? I don't really see the convenience in paying double for your needs when a cheaper product will suffice.

Now here's the million dollar question, and I urge you not to see this as an attack, but genuine curiosity: what is Afrihost's shaping policy at the moment, and is it going to change any time soon? There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding this and I'm sure a lot of people would be glad to receive a clear answer on this. Currently I'm seeing some members claiming full speed downloads at night, while others say they seem to be getting shaped to between 50kbps - 100kbps on 4mb and 10mb lines.

This is my opinion, but I don't really think shaping your clients to a quarter or 1/8th of their download speed, even during business hours, is really an acceptable shaping policy. Now here's where clarity needs to be given imo, is Afrihost Uncapped basically JustSurf with very minimal downloading being allowed, or are the current download woes just temporary and will go away once the network gets sorted out?

+1, but don't ever expect these questions to be answered to any degree of satisfaction

Now this is awesome!!

Sarcasm. Time to get dial up going!

Ok I'm done, I've tried being patient and things have gotten worse not better. As it stands now:

1.) Torrents barely hitting 30kb/s occasionally
2.) Steam download is non existent, only shows data about every 15 minutes (No Planetside for me)
3.) Speedtest show 1.2mb local and 0.2mb international.

Here's the kicker, steam was running fine until I hit 80Gb for the month, then died and torrents slowed down from 60kb/s to 30kb/s.

If by 12:00 tomorrow there is no significant improvement I'm gone. You guys have seriously dropped the ball here. The QoS implementation should have been communicated to clients beforehand and tested with a typical set of users first. I do however have to applaud the time and effort you have put in Afriman, I know we can't kill the messenger and you have tried your best.

But the team backing you has let you down. To quote a nice IT term, you're only as good as your last f***up. And this one has been pretty astronomical to a lot of your customers. Please just try and get this done. I really do not want to leave you guys, even recommended to my boss that we look at partnering with you guys to provide ADSL solutions to our customers. But at this stage I can't do that anymore.

I see so many complaints and i am cringing at the thought so i log onto the tablet and start streaming an SD movie from the internet on the 2MB uncapped account and no buffering at all, quite surprised.

Not saying the issues are not present as mine is an isolated case probably but i haven't had a reason to say i am having an issue right now "touches wood everywhere in the house" lol

Will have to backtrack to see what was going on here with AfriMan O_O

Try downloading a file? Http or torrent..

10mb uncapped, Durban - Usage = 173.8gB:

local speedtest.net: full line speed (1.1mBps)
1080p YouTube: full line speed (1.1mBps)
NNTP: +-900kBps
Torrent/p2p: Fluctuates between 250kBps & 650kBps

Nice performance for 8pm on a weeknight :)

Edit: After about 5mins the torrent slowed down and settled at around 150kBps

Torrents are currently running at an average of 3kbps for me , ive done 60 gigs 1mb line.

hm; torrents going MUCH better (betw 60Kbps - 100Kbps) since about 8pm this evening. I'm scared to close my torrent client...

Haven't been online for a couple of hours - had to attend a fancy function with free food and booze (obviously I would rather have been here on MyBB) :)

From what I can tell, downloads seem to be a little better. Is that the general experience right now?

Unfortunately, despite my earlier positive post, all downloads (nntp, p2p etc) are now shaped to 60kBps - Only YouTube is still at full line speed :(

Nope, unfortunately not for me AfriMan - ALL downloads bad - web experience fine. :(

I suppose you could say that , my average dl speed has jumped from 3kbps to a whopping 7kbps.

Not from what I see. My downloads are at 35kbps on a 4mbps line.

No change here!

Absolutely not! My download speed on a 2Mbps line/account currently peaks at 128 kilobits per second for 4 concurrent downloads. That's 1/16th of the speed I'm supposed to get, which is worse than the Afrihost standard 1/4th
