Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Yeah, something isn't quite right somewhere. Youtube is useless, although speedtest speeds look ok.

Moved to OpenWeb ages ago and I was wondering how things went here.

Still having issues.

I feel Arihost's pain however. I think I posted about it on MyBB when it was first mentioned.

MTN is the worst company I've ever had to deal with. I worked for an enormous company in SA (top 50 JSE type company) and they routed their network over MTN. We had issues on a weekly basis.

I actually had to deal with these MTN "engineers". They simply honey badger you. They just. couldn't. give. a. f#@#. It takes hours for anything to get fixed.

How they have become one of the largest companies in Africa is mystery to me.

The worst thing is, these large "enterprise" customers will stick up for MTN. You talk to the actual guys working with MTN to try and keep the network running and they'll all tell you the same thing. Stay away.

The speeds and uptime are pathetic.

Talk to the MDs and they are all singing MTN praises.

Go onto the MWeb network (eg. MWeb business), then you'll see a real network. MTN is a joke.

So yeah, my sympathies to Afrihost but I don't think I was the only person that said it would end badly.

I'm testing a free account from imaginet tonight:

And this is what I'm getting on Afrihost:

Download speed is fine for Afrihost but its the ping - I cannot play my games anymore.

My company is currently with MWeb business, and the support we get is not very good. They are supposed to monitor our network, but most of the time we inform them of network problems and then they are rude and generally do not give a #$@!.

Something wrong again tonight, but this time its not only Afrihost, my FNB capped account is performing the same. less than half line speed on local speedtest and about 10% of line on international.

Admittedly I am no longer involved with networking stuff in any form. So I haven't had to deal with MWeb.

I just know my current company is on MWeb business and the network hasn't ever been down and it's super fast at all times. (I watch movies and listen to music in the background while I work)

Old company on MTN the network was slow (as in slower than 384 ADSL) to terrible (can't even open web pages) depending on the day.

Mind you my current company did host with MWeb which was apparently the most useless service on earth.

Now it is strictly for internet access as I understand it.

anyone have any insight what those subscriber numbers are looking like for next month? genuinely interested to hear what the real impact has been from this mess

Yeah last night was a complete mess.
Skype was battling and I had problems getting to mybroadband to see if they were having issues again.

This morning seems better though.
@Afriman I don't think the network is coping with the current load. I think someone from Afrihost needs to go double check the promised increased capacity on MTN. They might be taking you guys for a ride.

We use mweb business, we have 150 ADSL lines with them 5 diginets and our entire VOIP and we dont have problems.

At my first company we used MTN-NS as well and my god they where beyond pathetic. This move WILL be the downfall of afrihost. Since moving to openweb i have not had a single problem. Downloads fly, gaming works perfectly i got the account half through the month and i've already almost pulled 100gb. I am however not trying to rape as much as i can just what i want/need.

Afriman, seeing as Axxess are seemingly too useless to get someone to answer question on this forum and their support is fing clueless.

Can you find out why my 10Mb account is "Managed" after only downloading 120GB and my HTTP downloads. NNTP and Torrents now max out at 50KB/s 24 hours a day?

Speedtest goes at full line speed for the first bit and then basically dies.

If I can expect to only get 120GB at line speed I can finish that in 36 Hours...

I've had an Axxess account ever since I got an ADSL line, but it seems as I predicted that the MTN move has ruined both your network and reputation. Get used to the international outages, it's a weekly thing for MTN NS.

As it's too late to cancel for December I'm going to stick around and see what happens, but if it's the same ***** next month I'll have to find another ISP as I work from home and trying to video/audio conference with application sharing over Lync doesn't work at 50KB/s

Has the new Clientzone actually brought any new functionality? Looks like its just a look-and-feel overhaul, but with less functionality. For example, I liked being able to pull usage logs for a date-range of my choosing. Can't see how to do that now, and it would appear that they have permanently switched over to the new one.

You can set your own passwords for account log in and authentication. If you've ever had multiple accounts with Afrihost you would know this is a HUGE plus!!! The default passwords issued with accounts are always random alphanumeric and impossible to remember.
