Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Downloads may be pretty slow, but other services should continue as normal, latency should remain under control.

I'm sorry to have to correct you. Youtube should continue as normal, but everything else runs at 1/16th speed.

I've completely given up on this. I reckon I'll be using capped bandwidth until pay day when I switch to another ISP. The question is who.

I gave up at end November.

Tried a 1024K uncapped Plugg, which - initially anyway- right now performs better than spec, and better than my 4M Afrihost uncapped has since MTN.

As I say, FWIW. It could all go pear-shaped anytime

+1. I am back to the paradise of "never shaped at ALL on the weekend" with IS. I have so missed it. Guys if you are getting shaped on the weekend, just jump ship. Trust me, IS based ISPs dont even know what shaping means on the weekend or after hours

Another +1. Jumped to Plugg. Very little shaping during office hours, no shaping after hours. Basically what Afrihost was before the move. In the process of moving my ADSL line back to Telkom as well. I admire the level of patience some of the people are displaying, but after about a week I had already had enough of it and I need my internet connection for work as well.

OK! I am now fed up with Afrihost!

Just spoke to the guys about my NNTP downloads running at 29.6KB!
REALLY!!!! 4 hours to get a 300MB file!!!!! OMG!! And I have a 4MB uncapped account!
They tell me that that is the way it is going to be and there is nothing they can do about it!

Afriman....

Is this now going to be a permanent thing with Afrihost?
If so, then it is pointless in having an uncapped account!

And to top it off, Google Earth is virtually unusable too!
LOL! I cannot even make a video call with Skype! Only audio!

I am still a new customer to Afrihost (3 months) and ever since the move to MTN, I have struggled along, hoping it would get better, because everybody raved about how great they are!

But now, everybody is leaving because of this throttling thing that is happening!

Please let me know what is actually going on, because there is myself and 17 of my friends, each on their own uncapped accounts and we are all not happy! We use it mostly for downloading and gaming (which is also not great!).

Grabbing a package update in Linux. Usually runs pretty much at line speed. That's not 4Mb/s.

Got about 30 minutes of decent speeds , its now about 1/10th of my line speed.

Connected up my bridged FNB Connect PPPoE connection, and suddenly 600KB/sec

Come on Afrihost. This is seriously not good enough.

Afriman, what would a 32Mbps Afrihost account cost? That's apparently what I need to saturate a 2Mbps connection.

Definitely not feeling the love tonight on uncapped 10mbps and we are the highest paying of the uncapped/shaped guys...

They better sort this stuff out soon. I am not feeling it anymore...

Geez, how did you get such a fast speed? I'm getting 4.7 KB/s on a 10MB business uncapped line ... which seriously sucks. Even worse, 2 1.4 GB downloads which were both busy for most of the day, died unceremoniously ... lucky it's an uncapped account or I'd be even more fed up ....

Didn't see anything on their Notices page ... can't believe they're unaware....
