Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Getting some disconnects the last two days in Battlefield 3 :(
youtube also struggles to stream 360p videos :-/ one video might go perfectly at 480p and after that they all suddenly can't even play on 360p anymore. 4mb line

Doesn't seem to be a general issue, but we getting lots of reports of DSLAM congestion randomly affecting bandwidth access. It may be due to some 40Mbps services coming online. Drop me a PM we'll see if this is the case, or if there is any other reason you're getting less than awesome performance :(

Sweet, all the best to the Afrihost Team :).

I wonder what is in store.....40mbps perhaps :D.

Dad noticed better stability with Skype video calling on New Years so that itself is a good sign eh.

40mbps with their current ****ty infrastructure lul.

i must say my last month and a half has been a rather pleasant experience on afrihost ! sometimes my torrents are shaped to 1 meg, but it seems more often that they are not (this is in day time). All my HTTP downloads seem to max.

Playing online i have had no issues, my ping is usually the best out of my friends.

I have had pretty decent connectivity as well. just was 2 days that could not browse so used my openweb uncapped account but it is back to normal now. what is there shaping policy on there accounts?

40Mbps lines run on MSANs which use separate back-haul from the DSLAMs. I highly doubt its 40Mbps lines causing DSLAM congestion, it is however possible that they are congested because more users are turned on, on the same DSLAM however.

That's correct, but I'm not sure what changes have been made to the backhaul from either the MSAN or DSLAM. The test groups in my area on 40Mbps are still partially using the same infrastructure according to the Telkom tech I spoke to. Maybe they'll be changing things once they start rolling out mass MSAN's

However, Fast and Faster DSL upgrades have already increased demand by around 30%, so that alone is enough to account for massive congestion. We just seem to be getting lots of reports of lines syncing below the set speed, which in turn causes instability on the line. Telkom in many cases are just dropping the sync (i.e. 4Mbps to 2Mbps) to relieve congestion and stabilise service.

The upgrades from 384 to 1Mbps and 1 to 2Mbps is much more believable :)

If the MSANs share backhaul with the DSLAMs and the backhaul is congested...would seem like a terrible 40Mbps trial to me. The 40Mbps guys would get almost equally slow speeds as the regular ADSL lines.

Ja got the same here for the last 4,5 days since I got back from holiday, youtube streaming issues, online gaming issues and even browsing is down the drain... Did call Afrihost 2 days ago at about 22:30, did a reset for me, no change at all.

Oddly enough, I never had issues when Afri was with IS, but since the merger/conversion, eish! :erm:

also getting some below average speeds here and dropped connections... busy downloading at 7kb/s :/

For the last month, especially during the holidays there were no issues with AfriHost...PM AfriMan with the issue and have him check it out for you, your problems will be solved quickly.

Very interested to see how the network holds up once everyone gets back to work. Hopefully the IPC upgrades in Feb sort out any issues if there are any.

Next Monday :-) Builders back then, then Wednesday Schools. (In the Cape)

Morning People :)

I know a lot of people are predicting (fearing) that once all our business and heavy day users come back from the coast/mountains/outer mongolia , that ADSL service is going to degrade beyond acceptable limits. We are confident this is not going to happen, and we have good reason to believe so.

I promised I would be giving you all the details of the upgrades of the network that are underway (and some already completed) and what is planned for the next month or so. I'll be able to give all the info at around 12h30 today, when the info goes live on our website. We'll make this info public, and we'll have a page on our site explaining, in specific detail to show how much we appreciate your patience (and continued trust).

Well Axxess is throttling their 10Mb accounts to 60kB/s again after running full speed the whole of December.

Is the announcement in addition to the one from this morning? ( Tuesday, 08 January, 2013 at 08:24)
