Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Currently testing my new GConnect account (its a 1Mbps and my Afrihost is a 2Mbps)

Afrihost:

GConnect:

Now this is going to be interesting in a weeks time once the IPC comes online as I will have something to benchmark against. The GConnect is their Valentines special and I took it until the end of March (best 24c I've spent)

I'm another unhappy client. Since the move to MTN networks the shaping policy is appalling. The generic answers from the support desk is frustrating the living daylights out of me. Gian the CEO does not take a minute to respond to an e-mail sent to him. The suggestions fall on deaf ears. I am even willing to pay little bit more for unshaped adsl. Why not give us full speed to 150GB or whatever the case and then start shaping. Now, after hours I battle to download anything I want to watch...
What is Afrihost going to do to retain their clients?
I'm seriously considering moving to another ISP.

I'm sorry to hear that you are unhappy and at the point of considering moving. We definitely don't want this, and we need to make every effort to improve your experience until our new IPC goes live, which is in less than a fortnight.

Drop me a PM and let's see what we can figure out :)

Sad thing this... having the same problem with Mweb and wanted to move over to Afrihost. Guess that won't be happening now.

When our new IPC comes online, we expect our network make a big splash. We hope you'll wait until then to make your decision. New capacity drops on 25th Feb, but remember we also have other great stuff lined up like Google Nodes, CDN and Peer Caching upgrades which will really put our network on top.

Also, speeds are terrible.

What's going on, Afrihost? It just took me 25 minutes to get to this thread! Why is everything so slow? I've been trying to load a youtube video for hours and earlier NNTP was running at 139 B/s (bytes!) until I gave up.

I'm on 4Mb and its been terrible for months now. Please do something about it and don't just say "IPC soon!". The move to MTN was supposed to be the fix last time. :( please.

I don't have an ETA on those being completed, though I think certain components are being upgraded on an ongoing basis. This is pretty advanced networking, but I'm pretty sure we'll know when it done and complete.

I see you're having some speed issues. Please drop me a PM when you can so we can have a look :)

Gotta love the new Webafrica adverts. Slow internet getting you seeing red and had enough of the yellow fellow. So this is what it has become, even Webafrica can now mock Afrihost. Eish

Up until about 5 days ago, my Afrihost 10M uncapped was very erratic (NZBs running at 100K/s then suddenly at 900K/s one minute later, torrents unable to connect, etc).

Now I'm getting max line speed all day on HTTP, NZB and torrents. Latency is also <200ms to UK consistently now.

Afriman, did anything change around that time?

Having issues from this morning with authenticating, line syncs fine but won't establish a connection no matter what. Tried the Fix My ADSL tool a few times with no luck.

Anyone know if this is a known issue, Telkom or ISP related?

Thanks!

Update: back up and running, seemed to have been a local Telkom issue... whole area was having issues (even took down PnP's card machines... fun!)

Up and flying full speed again :D

The guys are constantly making changes to improve performance, and the network itself learns better routing and optimisation as it progresses. As far as I know no major changes were made.

We're not having general issues like this, but drop me a PM and I'll have a look if all is good on your line and account. Should be able to see the error logs and see what the issue is.

LOL! Haven't seen that. Oh well, just shows that everyone is watching us to see what we do next ;)

Well for now I am still sticking it out till 25 Feb. So tick tock, I am ready to be shocked and awed by the new and improved network and prices. ;)
