Hmm.. seems too odd to be a coincidence - just this weekend I've had spikey pings from the 1st hop - never had exchange issues before @ all. Emailed Afrihost support they asked me for traceroutes, suddenly it was all 100% again, this morning and now - back to 100-200ms on first hop, tried IS as well as Telkoms guest account - high pings on first hop for all.
