The one moment it is perfect the next moment ****ed.
Is it because I mentioned on which Exchange I am on- getting targeted now?

Hmm.. seems too odd to be a coincidence - just this weekend I've had spikey pings from the 1st hop - never had exchange issues before @ all. Emailed Afrihost support they asked me for traceroutes, suddenly it was all 100% again, this morning and now - back to 100-200ms on first hop, tried IS as well as Telkoms guest account - high pings on first hop for all. Speeds fine though.

I hope there's something unusual and my exchange hasn't suddenly gotten congested from Saturday.

PS: In Plumstead but on Grassy Park exchange

This is exactly what I've been experiencing. It's very erratic. But happens more often that not now. I've had first hops of 1400ms. Already opened a ticket this week with AH to relay to Telkom - not sure how that's going to help.

Well lets hope it is the Telkom Technicians doing maintenance.

If you read the Telkom forum posts, there was talk about them doing some work in Cape Town area due to high latency and so on, I don't know if this has been done or completed.

Also maybe the activation of the MTN Cape Town IPC, the Web Africa moving over to IS backbone.

Maybe with all this shuffling of traffic some idiot has put the patch cord or network cable into the wrong hole as usual.

This weekend I experienced Pure Internet Joy! Thanks Afrihost!

I don't know what changed but honestly this was the best overall performance I've seen from my line since Christmas holidays. Gaming sub 210ms to EU, Youtube maxed line speed, Skype perfect quality and p2p/downloads amazing! (PTA - 1mbps uncapped)

My feedback to Gian from the SMS survey was a 6 but if this keeps up the next survey will get a 10 definitely.

Seems to be slowly recovering now!
