Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Is it possible for Afrihost to handle the switching of my line from Mweb to them or would I need to ask Mweb to transfer it back to Telkom first?

Telkom don't allow direct ISP to ISP tranfers. You'll have to send it back to Telkom first :(

Now this is PURE INTERNET JOY

International on 4MB line from Cape Town after 2100

@AfriMan, tested BBC iPlayer and it ran without issues ;-) , this is probably due to unshaping eh and DBN IPC going live. Really love it. FYi for others, 2MB line on the 2MB uncapped package.

Can i ask you something? How many votes do you need from us to convince you that we want AH to keep the network unshaped indefinitely :D?

Just give us a number and you can be sure that it will be reached :p. I dare ye.

Am itching for 10MB now because i want to watch TGear in HD arrrrrr

Where are you in Cape Town?

This is what LOCAL looks like on the South Peninsula tonight - not great at all (4mbps capped):

During the day it goes pretty much full speed, come 5pm it dies.

Warning: Cape Town persecution complex detected.

The 'Afrihost experience' has been utter **** the past 5 months no matter where in the country you're located.

I alternate one week in JHB, one week in CPT. I do not have these problems in JHB.

Much better! :D

Im still getting some lag on international MMO gaming traffic though...but that is also a LOT better than it was last month.

Thanks for the anecdote, Garp.

I have a friend in Cape Town who uses Afrihost, and he says that he hasn't been having any problems at all. If we combine your anecdote with mine, it becomes clear that Afrihost have in fact not had any network problems at all, unlike what you suggest.

Well done Afrihost - downloads and streaming are working well.
My only hope is to drop local latency below 50ms in Pietermaritzburg.
Not sure how were linked to the ipc as Jhb has a better latency than Dbn which geographically is around the corner.

with these issues on Afrihost, I decided to sign up to MWeb's uncapped trial to see what's potting.

Last night:

AH
ping: 344 -450
Down: 1.9-2.5
Up: 0.21

MWeb trial (consistently)
Ping: 10ms
Down: 3.42
Up: 0.39

This morning AH is much better:

Ping: 10ms
Down: 3.41
Up: 0.40

I get the same result, except it seems to be a consistent daily pattern now: > 3mbps in the day, < 1mbps at night.
