AfriHost uncapped ADSL here soon

Mweb jumped the gun with their offer, they're not pioneers nor saviours. Seriously, what has Mweb done for you other than be the most expensive ISP for the last couple of years? Is loyalty so cheap these days?
Now is the time to keep supporting Afrihost and not jump ship to the devil.. otherwise we might just end up with a future where all the small guys had to close doors since they couldn't sustain the uncapped service and Telkom/Mweb monopolizing the interwebs...

Everyone laughing at the concerns that this game is spinning out of control and becoming unsustainable should start thinking with their brains and not just their pockets.

I think that loyalty to isp's is just stupid. I want the cheapest and if Mweb is the cheapest, then they get my business. Their customer support is also very good.

Loyalty to myself is why more important than to any company. I will go with which ever company offers the best deal , currently that is mweb. If that changes I will switch, its that simple.

oh boy i've read some of you people's posts and i have to say this...........it doesn't matter at the end of the day how you try to explain how this or that is going to work, or what will happen if a thousand people download X amount because of uncapped internet, some of you have missed the boat here.
this is all about who gives the best deal gets the customer. this is a price war here. afrihost has come forward with THE deal and they will get the customers.
telkom can no longer dictate here, there is a new kid on the block and new competition. if they don't come forward with some kind of deal people will just move. there's no longer this strong hold they had over the people. they think as in the past with all the red tape holding them back. i don't see them coming forward with a deal in the next week or even 2 weeks for that matter, they still think old school.
there's no longer going to be loyalty here as well. for years there have been certain businesses who have dictated, because they've had the monopoly and power to do so.
now it's the choice of the people and those who are saying enough is enough. there are ways and means to do this cheaper and we will show you and take your clients along with it.
let the price war begin lol.

So you'll stop supporting Afrihost after all they've done just because they take a couple of days longer to announce their exact new pricing?
Afrihost already said they'll even or better Mweb's offer.

Let's get this straight, you're saying you don't give a damn if this is a make or break moment for many ISP's but will JUST look out for your own, short-termed personal gain?

Yes

My opinion is this: Afrihost were the ones to start competitive pricing, and we all jumped to them. For this, they do deserve a little bit of gratitude, and a little bit of loyalty. It's possible that without Afrihost cutting bandwith prices, MWeb would'n't have bothered to reduce their prices at all. Kind of like the last 5 years.

Completely agree.

Uhm. Why did everyone jump to Afrihost? Cause they GOT a better deal there. So don't spread this bull about loyalty to a ISP cause its rubbish!!

I hope all this uncapped business means that the price per GB will go down. I think it would be better to just get a 20 gb -30gb cap at like R4 a gig on 384kbps then go for "uncapped" 384kbps.

Also I wonder how these prices are going to be affected if/when telkom boost the speeds of the 384/512users.

As MWEB said, they will honour the increase in speeds, which will give slightly more than the usual overheads influenced speeds, but no more than the speed paid for, since they rate limit accounts to exactly that paid for.

A separate 8 or 12meg package will be made available at a cheap rate also.

That's exactly what I am saying.

YAY!!!!!! I get to stick with Afrihost!!

My sentiments exactly. Been with FNBConnect for a while and they were great (still have them as a backup) but changed to AfriHost for the R29/gb special and haven't looked back. I especially enjoy the 2-for-1 specials and wait in eager anticipation of the uncapped option. :)

I agree - it's an age old saying "Its purely business."

I don't think many stuck with their previous ISPs long to see if they would match Afrihosts price - and unfortunately, if Afrihost can't match MWEB - I'll be moving - end of March is my cut-off date.

I'd be stoked if I can stay with Afrihost. Looking very forward to Tuesday's announcement!

Indeed! I'm either MWEB or afrihost at this point. I don't mind being shaped during the day as long as I get decent speeds for youtube and stuff. :-)
Heck I don't even download more than 100GB a month. Perfect for normal users like us, not the blood gypsies who like to hog bandwidth and **** it up for the rest of us.

Even if Afrihost match MWeb on price, it should be obvious from Screamer/DigiChilli etc that price isn't the only factor now. MWeb have a tier-1 network with access to Seacom/SAT3 etc plus a lot of money to fund their network. I don't see how Afrihost are going to be able to provide nearly as good a service as Mweb, unless IS is dropping their prices to "compete" with Mweb.

I think the difference will come in as to how they manage their networks....

Just waiting personally to see if Cybersmart will do anything. Joined them a few years ago and hope that they will also do something otherwise I will have to leave and am sure a ton of others have and will. Loyalty can only take you so far because Cybersmart is not going to give me the extra money we pay them to use on our families (ISP loyalty is 2 months for me before I have to look at something cheaper). Got all the plans as well with them so I can download 5x during weekday nights and 10x during weekends which is great but only during those times can you get bang for your cap. I would like to download whenever I want thanks, I want to browse without fear of cap killing. Lol. Basically I want Mweb / Afrihost deals as well from my ISP. 2c take it or leave it. :)

Yes! Think about it guys - what happens when you have downloaded the entire internet?! Nothing left for anyone else! What then - have you thought about THAT??!

You obviously misunderstood my argument... but I am sure this is because you want to misunderstand it, because you did not quote the actual prove of my argument, just the part that you want to attack. Besides, if you equate internet use with downloading only you are actually missing the boat. The best application for available bandwidth is not downloading ripped movies, but far more interesting things like live streaming video feeds, online applications (e.g. anything from Google Docs to more bandwidth intensive things like PhotoSynth) etc.

I am not saying that uncapped isn't here to stay, but it will still cost, and there will be trade-offs, especially in the short-term.
