international...astraweb. full speeds during office hours...**** speeds during unshaped hours. And I stay in Pretoria.

Look at this ****:

Wow - very odd. How can there be such a difference between CT and Pretoria. Must be some problems in the IS backbone?

If you do a continuous ping for your ppp's default gateway do you get any drops?

I've got really poor speeds with Cheapernews too. Getting 5-10KBps on 8 threads. news.is is a lot faster.
However, my http speeds are more or less fine.....

EN with 2 threads maxes out my line. I've given up on the IS news servers as its mostly slow.

I switched over to my Axxess Express last night in the hopes of getting better speeds from my torrents and that did seem to help ... eventually ...

This morning I switched back to Afrihost and my torrents are cruising at a comfortable 360kB/s average (from about 05:45 this morning)

Well something is up in Pretoria. Just pisses me off as it feels no one wants to do anything about it. So if by end of monday this has not been sorted out, I'm cancelling with Afrihost and giving Mweb a try.

im again shaped at 90-100KB/sec

tried everything

if the downloads were up and down i would imagine traffic congestion, but its a constant 90KB/sec now. very strange.

I have an account with both..

Going to give mweb a try shortly and see if it changes anything.

I'm wondering if there isn't some issue with the IS network in DBN.....

I'm in the exact same boat as you. Where are you sitting with your bw usage on your uncapped account?

Logged a call, no one phoned for 2 hours. So, I get a missed call as I'm on the phone with MWeb, Afrihost tech does not leave a number that I can call him back on. Grrrr!! Anyway, with MWeb now (took 15minutes) and torrents are back up to 370kB/s and news servers up to 420kB/s. Sorry Afrihost, but I don't need this cr@p

is that so? So Mweb's line speeds are fine?

Guess I'll be going over to them as well.

It looks that way..
but of course since the account is rate limited, I can't tell what type of shaping is going on.

My line speed is fine with Afrihost as well.. i'm getting 400kb/s on http stuff... its just torrents that are giving me grief atm... logged a ticket, lets see what happens.

Also Afrihost locks your uncapped account to one telephone number, as shown in the client zone. I use my uncapped at one of two locations (my express+) depending on where I am (only logged in at one site at a time in any case) but I cannot do that with the Afrihost account. So, even though the speeds are full 4Mb for me, I'll stick with my downgraded express+ account.
