Good job Gian and everyone at Afrihost

Does Afrihost use different sub-net per package? More specifically is uncapped 384 on a different subnet than subscription 384?

The download speeds are good and all, but what's the ping looking like? I won't be moving to uncapped if the local pingtest.net's keep hovering around the 80 mark. Anything more than 30 is too much.

Download speeds still great! Missed the F1 this morning - it will be downloaded within the hour. 400Kb/s from EN :)

I've given up on the local news servers - international nntp is the way to go!

Can you afrihost guys connect to news.mweb.co.za?
No, they must use news.is.co.za.
Networks have their own news servers which are 'network-locked', only their specific clients can use the news servers on that network.

Test to San Francisco USA (it's where the servers are on which I play mostly) showed unacceptable ping (same as always) but really really like so totally subterranean bad down and upload speeds, I couldn't believe.
This is going on since 3 days, actually when I upgraded to uncapped. He, I'm still paying a ****load of money for a 4096 service. Afrihost/IS, can you please deliver what you are payed for???

383ms to servers on the US West coast is actually pretty fantastic for an ADSL product.

Herman, Uncapped ADSL doesn't move Africa closer to US. No matter how much you pay

Yes, guys I know that. And the Ping didn't get worse after I went uncapped ... BUT did you have a look at the up- and download??? By the way, connection to local sites, like this very forum here, was super lame as well.

Anyway, just did a hard reboot of my routerthingy and did a new speedtest:

Looks much better now. Maybe it needed just a little kick in the @$$

Anyone know if Afrihost resets your active session every 24hrs. In the last couple of days I've gone through a few IP's... no biggie - just wondering

With Axxess Express +, I ran with an IP for weeks on end..

Thanks

Signed up on Saturday and ratehr disappointed so far.

Even though it seems that I'm always connected to IS new servers it hardly ever downloads. Just says downloading but everything stays at 0 kb/s. And when it does download I haven't seen speeds higher than 15 kb/s. Downloaded about 200 MB in 36 hours.

Torrents are also pretty unstable - usually around the 50 kb/s mark. This morning at about 05:00am it was 300 kb/s though. But last night it was barely doing 10 kb/s.

Did 3 speed tests so far, at various times during the weekend. The first one was 320 kb/s, second wa 1.21 MB and the third one was 2.93 MB. All tests were done with the Johannesburg servers.

use international news servers. IS news server sucks in general. The only local news server worthy of anyones time is the SAIX news server.
