Well, I am pretty disgusted at the way this has all been panning out. I have had my Afrihost account since last year and always been impressed with their offerings. I went for the 'uncapped' (reason for inverted commas is because this is a false name for what it's turned out to be) because I use a fair amount of bandwidth just for browsing and day to day usage. I do download and run updated etc. Further to this I do use P2P software for the odd torrent and so on. When I first read about the 'uncapped' accounts last month it was explained that there would be a speed issue from time to time, there was even an analogy of a pizza place used. Fine, but nowhere did I read that you would explicitly get heavily throttle if you use your connection to its full potential. On my 384k line I have done about 17 GB so far which is in my books a lot, this includes the 2 GB of normal capped bandwidth that I had, so in reality then 15 GB on the 'uncapped'. The transfer speed wasn't too bad for the first few days, but has steadily being getting slower. From last night it has become almost as pathetic as dial-up speed at times.
Now, Axxess has their old Uncapped account (now I see they call it Express Uncapped) where it clearly stated that there is a rolling threshold which kicks in during working hours basically which throttles down to half speed IIRC. But basically you know what you are getting.
Enough of that though, back to Afrihost 'uncapped'. As far as I am concerned, if this what the 'uncapped' account is going to be like going forward, I am not interested at all, I'd rather pay less for a capped account that delivers. It really should be called 'uncapped - maybe 56k...'
