I"m getting 3-11kb/s on my newserver downloads on my 384 account. I have a 4mb line. I've downloaded a total of 17gb up to now. Speedtest.net shows downloads at 12kb/s. Afrihost technical support says it is a problem with the line and say they are not throttling it. Yet, my gconnect account and web africa account fly at full speed. They say those are on "different ports." and the afrihost port is having problems. Sounds strange to me.

my torrents are hitting 65kb/s on my free mweb account, thats faster than my AH 4mb line!

looks like its mweb for me....

when i had a 4mb mweb account for 24 hrs, my torrents hit 460 kb/s and i was in heaven!

first few days where AH was hitting 360kb/s...that was then..
tried to download the same torrents that hit those speeds, to test shaping and all that, no luck speedwise...
even well seeded torrents are struggling now at 7 kb/s...

still early in the month so i'm hoping things improve.

i want them to succeed as i was happy with their capped service but if by the end of the month its still the same...i'm off.

guys, what kind of throttling goes on after 30 gb exactly ?

i'm over the limit as of today and as i have stated above i'm cruising at 7 kb/s...
for once my torrent clients are all green and healthy and still snails pace..

anyone over 30gb ?

@William riker, as per their website here is what you're in for:

This is how we are currently dealing with our Uncapped 4096 accounts:

===============
PLEASE NOTE: These are our current settings we plan to use - however, they may change in the future.

This is our first iteration of a brand new product and we are learning as we go - We are hoping to refine this and over time make the limitations less
===============

On signing up to our Uncapped product you will get our standard ADSL service. (i.e. certain ports are shaped somewhat and web and email are prioritised.)

After you have moved 30 GBs you will be moved into a different category whereby certain ports will be shaped more aggressively. However, web and email will still be prioritised.

After moving a total of 60 GBs you will be moved into a different category where your line speed is throttled to 1024 kbps per second and certain shaping protocols are in place.

After moving a total of 90 GBs then you will be moved into a category where you will be throttled to 512 kbps. Certain shaping protocols will also be in place here.

After moving a total of 120 GBs you will be moved into a category where your line will be throttled to 386 kbps. Certain shaping protocols will also be in place here.

After moving a total of 150 GBs you will be moved into a category where you are throttled to 128 kbps.

You will never be capped.

If you use this account for heavy downloading then you WILL be throttled at some point in the month so please think about whether this account is for you.

Please note: The above explanation is how we are currently planning on dealing with accounts from April but we do reserve the right to change these at any time - The bottom line is that if you intend to use this account for heavy downloading you will be shaped and throttled at some time.

Hey peeps,

So tested my 4 MB line on two accounts.

FNB Connect:

Afrihost Uncapped 4 MB:

It honestly took about 5-8 minutes for the Speedtest test to complete from start to finish on the Afrihost account. Torrents are not possible, 15 KBps combined, maybe. Browsing is impossible. Youtube DOES NOT WORK. Currently at about 63 GB...

I am not happy.

eish!

whatever happened to the 100s of GB we could move before some sort of capping?

Unfortunately 2 days ago I also realized the same thing... at least you can cancel your account for a refund and move on. For that I give them credit.

Never mind the "uncapped" accounts....they now starting the mess up the capped accounts wrt the usage under "my connectivity" .....
no-one seems to have answers..........you download 1GB, but usage only registers 1-10 MB.....
been like this since the 1st ..... Told them str8, i'm not responsible for anything going over the cap :wtf:

Email them that you want to cancel, they will then tell you to go into your Client Zone and cancel your service. Then just email them again to sort out the refund. I only cancelled today so will have to wait and see how long it takes to them to refund. I think they are insanely busy with all the cancellation though.

just mailed them and they said refunds are not available for any account activated since april 1st. They said i was aware that my 384 account would be shaped and throttled and just pointed me back to the faq. I knew it would be throttled just didn't expect it to be worthless once i hit 15gb. I am truly impressed that a company can be this shady. the gconnect 30gb for 199 plan is FAR better than this and obviously mweb is better still.

@jamezjunk, I'm really sorry to hear that. I joined on the 27th of March and it just automatically rolled into April till I saw what they've been doing. Its really unacceptable that they try and cling onto users even when they cant deliver the service they ought to. But I can imagine they are very desperate right now.

Sorry to say, but I do agree with them. AH has messed up in many areas but to all early signers who were unhappy, to offer full refunds even for bandwidth used, I think does show class. If you had done research on this forum you would have been very aware of what was going on. To now have used bandwidth and expect a refund is really a big ask. On Openweb thread they are just refusing any refunds, so i think AH is to be commended for what they have done in this area.

I do not wish to be harsh to you and am sorry for your experience and hope that you new ISP will work better for you and that AH will come right soon

Lemme be devil's advocate here, you actually believe getting a refund after you pulled down 15GB in 9 days on a 384 account is fair? How is that less shady?

You could always ask them to charge you per/GB for that 15GB.......
