I've had it with Afrihost...the connection is getting worse and worse, especially during the day.

Fortunately I have a 16GB Telkom account to fall back on which works well, but I still need another +-35GB per month.

Is there anything with better value than just buying multiple Telkom 16GB accounts @ R239.00ea? I have a 10mb line so uncapped would be too expensive.

R899 too much?

What package do you use?

I have a 17GB unshapped, capped AH account. My account is working well for both local & international.

I work from home so need the net in the day. Busy DLing stuff currently.

Is it an ISP problem or a TK problem?

I have a 20GB AH account, haven't had a single issue with performance

I have an Afrihost Gold 60GB account - I've noticed that until 5PM, most downloads are heavily shaped (100KB/s). Over the past week or so, I've had laggy Starcraft and Skype which breaks up. My line syncs perfectly at 10mb, and changing to my Telkom account fixes both issues, so I'm pretty sure this is Afrihost/IS.

Since this is a recent thing, maybe I should just wait it out for a bit to see if it gets better again.

Contact them & ask about shaping. If it is a shaped during the day account then there is probably nothing you can get them to do. If it is meant to be unshaped they must look at things & get the shaping removed.

Maybe explain to them that you often work from home.

Why is it that some business's are always wanting a cheap solution? I can't afford it he says! There is a lot of things I can't afford therefore I do without.
I have an uncapped Afrihost account which is throttled to hell and gone during the day. I then switch to my normal capped account.

I need decent speed during the day as I sometimes work from home and need to VPN into the office.

Get yourself 2 accounts - Local SAIX only account for the VPN to the office - and then a cheaper account for your general surfing maybe even uncapped.

Get a Mikrotik RB750 or something else than can do policy based routes, so that only your VPN to office goes over the Local only account, and everything else goes over the other account.

Normally AH's capped accounts are suppose to be unshapped, or at least most of them are... & if you read : - he SOMETIMES works from home. it does not mean ALWAYS.

Either your reading or your comprehension skills suck. Or maybe both, judging by your inability to use apostrophes correctly.

I'm just looking for something similar to the Afrihost account (after all, it has been working well for a long time). I'm not after being able to do 500GB a month of downloads.

You can get a 40gig account from Telkom. Why not get Telkom uncapped?

Otherwise look at openweb gold.
