Afrihost Vodacom Fixed 5G thread

Kindly test now, we are seeing an improvement in traffic.

Some throughput now, but it's VERY unstable and comes and goes. Will monitor it for a bit, hopefully it's just a case of the network being overwhelmed by all the connecting users and has to stabilize.

Still cant do a speed test. CMD pings don't work. Webpages either fail or load slowly. connected to band N78 and 1 & 3 with great signal stats. Currently using Telkom Pre-Paid LTE as a workaround.

Haha same, telkom pre-paid LTE data bunldles as a backup plan!

Pretty much what I'm experiencing as well.

Have switched over to MTN fixed wireless for now, I kind of regret giving Vodacom a chance TBH.

It's sad because I do think this product has potential. Under sustained load , albeit with some QOS tweaking, bufferboat is mitigated. Unfortunately with a combination of CGNAT and the way my traffic is routed PE , JHB, Cape Town then Europe on top of reliability issues this is a deal breaker for me.

My Vodacom connection is completely dead this morning, not even a reboot helps... WTF did Vodacom do last night?

When I login to the router it shows that it's only picking up 3G and refuses to connect, never had an issue (with signal) in the last +-2 months of service, definitely have coverage, maybe they messed up the highsite or something, who knows.

Really feels like I've wasted money getting this service to be honest, constant issues, below-average speeds, CGNAT, etc. Unfortunately stuck with it because I took the damn router and would have to pay for the thing if I cancel now.
How long do you have left? :D

+- 4 months

CGNAT really is a BIG deal breaker yes, especially because many companies will order this as a potential failover connection at branches and remote sites, CGNAT unfortunately limits VPN tunneling and makes it way more difficult to work with. Thank god the fixed MTN wireless is still using normal public IP's.

Definitely the Afrihost backbone being the issue

Same connection via WARP, Tried VPN to back home on Afrihost fibre, constant drops even though the fibre is fine

The problem with MTN is they lock their Fixed LTE/5G to a signal tower so during Loadshedding or when you want to take in with you on holiday, you can’t…

Rebooted router again just now, connects to 4G+ but almost zero throughput, can't load anything. Don't have any VPN's connected. Just the odd website here and there that will eventually load, can't do speedtests, and no connection to Whatsapp or Telegram.

Seems like the APN is totally broken. Whatever Vodacom did last night made things worse, it's very worrying that nobody at Afrihost or Vodacom can resolve this, surely there must be someone that can take a closer look and identify the cause and fix it?

My wife just ordered this for her elderly parents. They will not be able to do all these technical things. Going to see if she can cancel it. Don't think anything has been delivered yet. Was looking for an alternative to the Satalite they have which is extremely slow.
