Currently I have a 4meg line and get 10 gigs per month from Vanilla for ridiculous price

Want to swtich over to uncapped and change my line to 512.

Should I keep my line with Telkom or change evertything to the ISP.

Which one would you say is better, Mweb or Afrihost. Don't mind paying a bit more for stability.

Thanks for the help.

Well, Mweb are set right now for uncapped + line. Afrihost will be along sooner rather than later. I'm currently with Afrihost and will probably wait for their 512k uncapped offering, but I won't wait that long. Would be nice to start April on uncapped.

Tried both. Afrihost's shaping is far more lenient.

I think in the long run MWeb will have far more capacity and a better network to deliver a proper uncapped service. Afrihost are only taking 1000 4mb accounts at the moment to test their service. MWeb have built a new network entirely for this purpose, plus Afrihost's daytime P2P shaping is quite severe too, what other shaping did you find on MWeb that was worse?

I must be one of the 1000 users on Afrihost, can't see that it's being shaped at the moment, downloading at 450Kbps... guess that will change once more users are on

I hope the downloading isnt hurting afrihost - they've got an amazing service going - I just hope they can keep profitable.

Haven't seen any shaping on Afrihost yet. What shaping there is on p2p ( like torrents during business hours), is probably being applied by IS, their upstream provider, rather than Afrihost themselves.
All Afrihost seem to be concerned about is that you are not downloading 24/7 and racking up "hundreds of gigs".

how do you guys download at 450kb/s?
max I have ever done on axxess is 410, and so far on afrihost its 370. ive never seen 450 on my side in the last 18 months, even on capped services.

OK maybe it is my afrihost account but seriously, i am getting a whopping 4.7 KBps speed downloading firefox. FML

I just switched from Afrihost capped to MWEB uncapped this evening (384k). For the last two and a half weeks I've noticed a considerable decline in Afrihost's speeds for both torrents and browsing (both on and off-peak). I emailed Afrihost support two days ago to find out why the service had slowed down so much and if they were shaping/throttling in preparation for this whole uncapped thing, and I came home today to see that I still hadn't received a reply. On MWEB uncapped right now and torrents are back to full speed, browsing is fast, and I'm pretty happy. Speedtest and pingtest are both better on the MWEB account. I really think that at the end of the day, MWEB has a more established network and will be better positioned to deliver an uncapped service. I downgraded my Afrihost account to 1GB incase I ever want to switch back.

The online signup for MWEB was super easy as well. From start to being online took less than five minutes, seriously.

Edit: And I really don't get the whole thing about being loyal to an ISP. Go wherever you feel the service is best, it's your money.

I'm testing both accounts and so far I'm happy with both, which brings me to my decision...which one to leave. I can play games, check out you tube, download news servers and surf the web on both in the time periods when I'm at home on both accounts. I'll give it another month and make my decision in mid April.

The choice is so difficult :)
