Salutations all so i am one of the many formally happy Afrihost clients but now seeing its all gone to hell with them i need some advice on where to go i download about 50+gb a month of torrents a month at night a bit of SKYPE and lots of you tube and STEAM ect all on a 1meg line so can any one suggest a alternative ISP.
:D
Many thank and i think this thread may just help a lot more people than me

I was with axxess for a long while... But now... OpenWeb, only been with them a few days but these guy's seem pretty awesome so far, they have tailored accounts for downloading etc. If there are any of the Gamers Delight Downloaders Right accounts left you should grab one of those...

MWEB Uncapped ADSL works for me - switched already in 2011 and TBH I don't look back. Despite what others say about MWEB, I have been impressed with the quality of service and customer support. Throughput speed is pretty consistent and online gaming and FPS work perfect (with the expected lag playing against internationals, but still bearable).

Regular downloads fly at line-speed and never had an issue (except when Telkom tinkers with the exchange).

Having good experiences with mweb 10mb uncapped, http / port 80 downloads go anywhere between 75-100% every time I've needed it.

Usenet is still shaped pretty badly but it's dynamic and after midnight goes at full line speed, usually about 50% line speed in the early evenings which is still not bad at all. A 42-minute 720p episode of Survivor 25 comes down in about 40 mins.

Can't speak for torrents or other p2p, I don't really use them.

I'm sure your experiences with a 1mbps uncapped will be similar. They have a 7-day free trial for accounts up to 4mbps so you've got nothing to lose. Anything but Afrihost. They really dropped the ball on this one and from the looks of things, haven't yet managed to pick it up.

:confused:Yeah who knows, cant even login to clientzone unless I install more bloatware on my machine ?? Guess I forgot to clear the Cache :erm: ok back in the "old" zone

+1 for Plugg. It's essentially how Afrihost was before they started sucking.

Their 4 MB is like 30 bucks more expensive than AH, which isn't much of a problem. But they are IS, which is a problem.
As far as I understand IS is using Seacom while AH moved to MNet who are on the WACS cable which is far superior. So I guess I give Gian and team some more time until they sorted it all out.

There... I fixed it :p

Go with Openweb Gold.

Imaginet is a good one on the IS backbone. Awesome support. Doing a promotion for free gigs of unshaped at the moment, so easy to test it out.

Plugg don't have anything to match the 35GB for R299 option that AH has. I need to use the account on about 4 connections so an uncapped account is not an option. I have the WA account as well but have been getting used to using 100GB odd per month.

Also had enough of Afrihost and their empty promises (once we move to MTN everything will be ok...)

On openweb silver uncapped and highly recommend it!

Africrap

Afrihost is on a SUPER downward spiral! They are plagued with increased latency and other issues. I'm not even able to browse properly tonight! Currently using my backup WebAfrica account. I'm on a capped account by the way, so I shouldn't be shaped or throttled in any way according to Afrihost. I'm SO disappointed in them. The following just doesn't cut it any more:

We are currently experiencing increased latency and decreased throughput on our ADSL network.
The problem is being attended to with the highest priority.
Unfortunately we don’t have an ETA at this moment but we will keep our status page updated.
Please accept our sincere apologies for all inconveniences.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Highest priority, but no ETA... really? Do you guys know what you are doing? Sincere apologies... used one too many times (almost daily).

On another subject, I logged a ticket 'cause I couldn't log in on the new ClientZone (which I'm giving a go) on Chrome (works in IE). Agent replies via email with my username and password in clear text, because he thinks I"m using the wrong credentials! Seriously, they are storing our passwords unhashed and available to every idiotic call-centre agent?! :wtf:

So it seems I'm forced to look elsewhere .
