How accurate are these in the when using for keys and wallets ? I understand the later model iPhones have a wide band chip to improve accuracy - could I get within a meter?

They have speakers that you can activate ?

And before you roll eyes, I don't know ...

Yes, it's pretty accurate. If you use "Find My" it may show that the tag is with you even if it a good few meters away. But select the AirTag and you can play a sound and/or be led to it by a tracker type thing.

Thanks - wasn't aware of the speaker, so I'll get one and give it a go

Just played about with one that I used in my suitcase on some flights recently.

I placed it a few metres away and the Items screen shows it is with you…

This is even if it’s a few meters away. But if it's down the side of the couch and you can’t find it, you select it and brings up another screen…

You can then play a sound which is a pretty clear repeating beep type noise.

But if still not found you press “find” and it brings up a directional screen pointing to it.

Then head that way and voila.

With the wide band you can get within much closer than a meter. The one in my wallet can guide almost to the side of my bag it’s in.
I have 8 air tags but mostly use them for reminders and general location than the actual close contact beaconing. But it does work well and as many have said you can get it to play a sound as well.

Thanks .

Let me find some. I know the best place was Avo at one stage, but will look.

It's cool that the air tags can show the direction of the item. My Tiles and Galaxy tags can't do that (guess it has something to do with wide band). They can show if you are getting closer though...

Other Apple devices should be able to see them as well when you are not in range, right?

I see "spotted by a nearby galaxy device" all the time with my galaxy tags when I'm not in range. These could be used for a crude car tracking device...

Your point?

Or are you just confirming it is cheaper?

But what do you mean reminders ?

The moment you forget/leave them somewhere (outside of your house) you get alerted that the item is no longer with you.

Much the same way your iPad notifies you if separated from your iPhone, or your iPhone is separated from your Apple Watch if you leave that behind. Same technology.

I’m with you.
