+1 baffles me as well.

He's somehow managed to invent himself as the technology dude on 702? Maybe he appeals to the techno-level of the listeners...

Every time he talks I find myself shooting holes in most things he rambles on about... and boy does he ramble on. Its like reading some low grade IT magazine and 702 put him on a pedestal....?????

In the land of the blind...

Hey guys Aki here. Someone alerted me to all the compliments you guys were making about me. Thank you. On a serious note, if you have something to say, why don't you have the balls to say to me directly instead of hiding behind the anonymity of the internet. Cheers Aki.

Err lol? So Aki prefers PM'ing then? Or is this a ploy to get you guys to call in?

I don't listen to 702 so can't comment, but from what I've seen of him on TechCentral now and again, I glance over his stuff with no real interest.

My take on the issue:

I was alerted to a thread about Aki Anastasiou where he was attacked. I know Aki personally (and people who attended the MyBroadband conference will also know him as the MC), and he is not only a super guy but also knowledgeable on IT related issues.

We obviously don't allow personal attacks on members (Aki is indeed a member ), and in this case I can personally defend him. If you have ever met Aki you will do the same - he is very cool, down to earth and loved by basically everyone who knows him.

Yeah, Aki is a super guy. The best MC at many events I've been to. Very few people in SA have such a passion about technology and the telecomms industry. I would say he generates curiosity from non-technical people and is able to easily sell them on the ideas of new technology.

Some of you guys are a bit too harsh. Save the flaming for those that deserve it.

I was just gonna say that Aki reads these forums and posts here on occasion.

Aki's show is not targeted at the top level IT gurus and developers, it is targeted at the general public.... and for that he does an excellent job at explaining what is going on.

When I listen to Technobyte I am actually more amazed at how the other presenters know so little about what Aki is talking about, and how Aki then uses a "dumbed down" explanation to confer the necessary knowledge.

If you have been to any of the MyBroadband conferences you would know that the Aki who presents on the Radio is unfortunately limited in time and therefore focus but the Aki who you talk to in person is much more knowledgeable about all things IT.

If you have a family member who is just as clueless, good luck to you trying to explain the PC stuff to them in an understandable manner! :p

Aki, some of us love your show, even though we are more "informed" than most!
Please ignore the "less informed" trolls among us here! :D

I follow Aki on twitter, i always enjoy the articles he posts.
I do catch the technobyte show every ones in a while, i personally think because he works for a commercial radio station, some of his reviews are biased, but honestly on twitter he always sounds like a very glued up guy.

No personal attack Aki, but i also hate the little way you interrupt Redi every morning just to talk about Orlando Pirates :D
*i'm a Chiefs fan OK...

Sheesh being a public personality one must take these things with on the chin.
We bitch and moan about Julius Malema every single day as well as just about every single person who is a public figure, Zuma, Zille, the list goes on.
I even bitched about Jenny Crews Williams. If you are in the public eye expect to have people that say nasty things about you.
Maybe a good response from Aki would have been to see how he could better the show or better the reporting?
Just my 2 cents

Maybe what pissed me off was the show some time back when they compared all Cell networks and Vodacom was the winner :D in Sandton I mean come one man thats just not possible lol

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. In no ways is this a personal attack, just someone's opinion. The fact that Aki and rpm see it as an 'attack' is quite sad.

I don't see any personal malicious attacks against him in this thread.

And if Julius Malema was a member of this forum would we not be allowed to criticise him?

I have no idea who Aki is BTW.

Hi Guys...thanks for the feedback appreciate it.

Pavan of course everyone is entitled to an opinion, but to go on a public forum and say the things that have been said is not only gutless but also cowardly. Especially when you hide behind anonymity. I have no problem with you or anyone having your say but have the guts to do so in my face.

Secondly what many members of MyBroadband forget is that they are all very knowledgeable on what is happening out there in the word of technology and understand it. The reality is that 98% of people out there actually don't have an idea but are interested, and it is my job to simplify things.

Marine1 that survey you are talking about was by no means scientific and we never claimed it was. We basically got into three separate cars, three identical handsets each with a sim card representing Vodacom, MTN and CellC, drove 300 km around Gauteng and tested which network stayed connected to a call for the longest period. In the end the winner was the one who had the least dropped calls.

Kokzn because I work for a commercial radio station it does not mean reviews are biased in any way. That I can promise you.

Have a good one guys. Thanks once again for the feedback. Always appreciated.

Lol I am just ragging you man, everyone knows on this forum I hate Vodacom with its dropped calls, slow speeds etc etc. :D
One thing I have learned in life, you cannot please everyone so yes some of us may not like the show but for everyone that does not like it there must be 5 people who do., or vice versa.
TBH I dont hide behind my KB, I really do not care who knows me or who doesn't. Been around a few blocks to know that what people say about me doesn't matter.
Hell 3/4's of the people say crap about me all the time :D
Listen I like you more than JCW thats for damn sure however my favourites are John Robbie and Redi. I also wanna murder that bloody feel good doctor on her show. Helgo Shuma ?? Jeeez man that guy is always so damn happy I wanna tie him up and beat him :D

Why is your username not your real name if you don't want to hide behind anonymity?

As said, I don't know you from a bar of soap, but your reaction to other forumites have already formed an image of you with me and that image as this stage is not good.
