Alan Knott-Craig's plans for Cell C

Other forums were riddled with suggestions one of the first thing AKC would do is get junior involved somehow... He's not even started yet and he's talking MXit already!

Nice. Now let's see by how much the internet access will drop. Having his son at mXit will actually help our cause. If you want the majority of fairly poor South Africans, to chat all day on mXit, the internet pricing needs to drop quite a bit. Especially the low volume bracket. And I like to see they did not go the racist BEE route. Judging by the performance of ALL public sector departments (BEE is working at full steam there for a while now), if CellC ever gives in to the state pressure they will be doomed. Telscum take 2 . . .

The former head honcho of Vodacom says his hoping to refocus the company

The chief executive says his hoping to make a contribution to the network whilst also picking up where his predecessor Lars Reichelt left off.

Gugu needs to get her English sorted out

Cell C has a notoriously poor help centre. I hope he will do something to shake them up.

I'm not excited by his appointment at all. Sure - he may have done a great job of taking Vodacom to wonderful heights subscriber-wise, but he's done little for the consumer that's noticeable. Vodacom take a reactionary stance on pricing as opposed to an agressive stance, and I fear that Cell C under his leadership will go from being a pioneer to just another follower. When everyone's doing the following, there isn't much room for innovation.

One things for sure, he has mighty big shoes to fill. I wish him good luck. I hope he's more customer focused than when he was at Vodacom.

BEE appointments take a long time ! However you can go from being unemployed to CEO in 3 days if you can cut the mustard ! Anyway my kids love MXit, maybe it will get cheaper now that daddy has a job and can dole out some free office space again !
Sorry Alan but i will always be a big Lars fan but what the hell, lets see what you can do.

So, now that the only "independant" mobile operator has been raped. What do we do now!

Hope and PRAY 8ta comes to the party.

Come on 8ta. You don't have competition anymore.

We all know Cell C will not be capable of competition NOW... as the word "UNSUSTAINABLE" will haunt us once again. The favourite words of the NEW CEO to be.

he doesn’t foresee any direct relation between Cell C and MXit as yet

Disgusting this keep it in the familar seems all so familiar, I could just burst with excitment :erm: please don't undo all the work that Lars did for CELLC. I will admit lying about your appointment before hand doesn't instil confidence

In all fairness at least AKC is qualified for the job

In January 2010 the Sunday Times alleged that Alan Knott-Craig, former Vodacom CEO, helped his son with business ventures using Vodacom resources. He also allegedly awarded a multi-million-rand contract to a marketing and advertising company run by family members.

He can't have the same behaviour now, he's not in charge of the market leader. He's in charge of the underdog.
I remember back when Vodacom was a relatively new company they actually provided good service.

You give any idiot a near complete monopoly and a dysfunctional regulatory environment (ICASA/Govt) and ANYONE can achieve the 'success' he had at Vodacom.

This 'success' came about by making supernormal profits at expense of the masses of South Africa. How could anyone sleep at night being the CEO whilst charging the masses a pay as you rate that that he did? Well he could do just that. The media in SA still regards him as a 'visionary'. They justified his extortionate rates, anticompetitive behaviour etc. If he was worth his salt he could heave gotten a job in a competitive market, except that he is not.

It was also at expense of making SA more competitive. His contribution to SA business was continued lethargy, price-manipulation, organised crime etc.

In short he is thug in a suit.
