I have my small system with mandatory grid topup to soc at 4pm. It does still discharge a bit on sliding scale with varying soc at 6pm and 8pm but from 10pm there is always a min buffer for the night.Extended LS slots at night and rainy/overcast days really burns my butt.
Last night I had a 2.5 hour slot between 20h00-22h30 and then a 4.5 hour slot between 00h00 and 04h30 - usage was particularly high in the early slot due to late supper, visitors etc and I was forced to recharge the batteries from the grid between 22h30 and 00h30 or face the possibility of running out in the middle of the night.
Sure it costs grid if bad solar charge but that's the main facet for me, loadshedding avoidance.
