All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

Tried to look through his posts... mind sharing purpose of this in terms of maintenance?
Maintenance would include checking for poor connections, they could be corroded, or need tightening, or maybe just a poor crimp on a bootlace or ferrule that has got worse with time. These present a higher resistance to the circuit, and result in excessive heat build-up in the connector and /or cabling. This can be spotted early if you have a spot meter thermometer, or a FLIR camera, and rectified.

+1 It's actually a big deal. I don't feel bad checking most of the connections after the sparky has gone. It's not often they have the time or inclination to be as thorough as an owner would. Fewer connections means fewer problems, but where there are connections, there's definitely no harm in double checking.

Especially on the DC side.
 
Would CT coil being installed close to the inverter in the garage and not by the main DB in the house 40-50m away potentially be the cause? I often see this cited as an issue, but my understanding is that it relates more to systems with non-essential loads of which I have none - all loads on essential.

So could the long cable run affect grid import measured? I.e. by the time the AC reaches the CT @ inverter-side, losses already materialised and CT only records what remains post-loss?

Never paid much attention to how the CT connects and communicates to the inverter. Does it need its own 'connection' to the inverter or will it somehow still 'talk' to the inverter if installed in the house by main DB where AC is dispatched to the inverter?
If you're using zero export to load the CT does nothing

Not when you're using zero export to load (deye) / limit to load (sunsynk).
Yes but who would be so stupid as to limit to load when you are running an air conditioner on a non-essential circuit while there is a lot of PV available?
 
Those who have everything on essentials. CT is useless in that scenario...
The only scenario that I can see to Limit to Load is if you do not want the PV to charge your batteries. For the rest the Inverter manages the load it draws from the PV by itself.

How would limit to load prevent PV from charging batteries? Limit to load says not to send any power back along the grid line, only along the load line. It has nothing to do with PV.

I clearly use my inverter differently from the way you do. If I do not want non-essentials to use PV or Battery, I untick the Timer and if I want to Export, I tick Solar Export. If I limit to load, then the inverter only looks after the load and no longer charges the batteries.

I think you might be misunderstanding the limit to load function. The inverter has three outputs - load, grid and aux/gen. Limit to load cuts power supply from the inverter along the grid line. So in the picture below when you limit to load / zero expert to load then there is no power flowing from the inverter on (2). If, like many of us, you have no non-essentials connected then limit to load is the better option.

I think you're confused. Batteries will always be charged by PV, this is about what to do with excess PV that you have available.

If you have stuff on non-essentials, the CT helps the inverter calculate how much of that excess to send to the non-essentials. If everything is on essentials, the CT becomes redundant, because everything that you generate (in addition to charging your batteries) goes to the load.

So whether you select zero export to CT or zero export to load makes no difference.

In this diagram backup load is essentials and home load is non-essentials. When you move everything to essentials, it's not feeding back excess PV on the line with an x anymore, all excess PV will just go to essentials. But it will still consume from grid on that line to supplement any deficit. Hence the CT is now redundant...
 
Finally. They didn't have matching trunking but I'm not too bothered as it's in a side room in the garage.

Did you perhaps take note of how they connected up the new battery? Asking as I might look at getting a third Sunsynk battery. The cables of both my batteries are currently connected up directly to the terminals on the fuse holder. I do not think there will be enough space for a third battery. I might have to look at the cabling method Sunsynk recommends for multiple batteries.
