I would imagine that it is charge rate. AM2s are 1C batteries, allowing the 5K Sunsynk to charge them at over 100amps. This means that the battery capacity can be recovered quickly between load shedding cycles, even at stage 8 ( where we start to see 2.5 hour gaps between load shedding cycles).

There is nothing wrong with NMC, the same chemistry is used by the Tesla Powerwall which is considered the gold standard. There are also some 4th gen NMC batteries available today that give excellent performance.
LiFePO4 batteries boast twice the lifespan and improved fire safety, albeit with a slightly higher price tag. I wasn't aware of the slower charge rate.
My installer cautioned against using Sunsynk batteries, suggesting they only allow the battery to be claimed for battery-specific purposes. I'm uncertain about the accuracy of this claim, though.
 
Congrats…May I inquire about the rationale behind installers selecting AM2's over AM5's, even though the AM5's utilize LiFePO4 technology and come at a slightly higher cost?
Couple folks have said the new AM5's have a few kinks, number of return to factories to fix.

Ours is set at 40A charge, which should cover most scenarios. The ability to charge at 1C is a bonus, but far outside our use-case.

Edit: Max discharge rate on the inverter is set at 90A, though it is actually rated at 120A. Probably safer that way...

Other option is to set grid charge to 90%. Given your consumption it'll still allow for ample use and be slightly better for the battery.

It's supposed to be a plug and forget system, and it is probably over-specced.
 
Setting SoC is a one off settings change

Not my toy, I'm just an observer, and don't need any comebacks from the BC or the installer...

Edit: The BMS system may require 100% SOC to do cell balancing, so setting the limit to 90% may have unexpected consequences.

I don't agree, it depends on the charge and discharge rates. NMC batteries' lifespan is provided at 1C continuous charge and discharge, most LiFePo4 batteries' lifespan isn't even given at these rates, but rather at 0.5C.
 
Yes, it would depend on the battery, but most are around 100Ah, so it should give a ballpark (if you include how many batteries in the system).

In theory if I discharge around 5kWh (even in multiple periods) and charge it back, that should be one cycle, right?

So you should get a ballpark estimation of your cycles by looking at your total discharge.
Maybe... but most of us have had many logger outages over the last year or so.

Good day all. Some help please. I have a sunsynk-5k-sg01lp1 inverter. We sold our house and moved with the inverter. However, we realized after taking the inverter out of storage that the wall bracket was still left behind in our previous home. Unfortunately we are unable to go back and get it as we relocated. Any ideas..... where I can purchase a spare bracket please ? Thanks.View attachment 1572264

Interesting read. That's why I don't lose sleep when people rag me for maxing the charge and discharge to well less than 1C on my 400ah set.

mmmmmm AM-5's doing an AM-2_gen1 - not good!

Touch wood, I have not had a single issue with my 2x AM-2 2nd gen's. My folks have 3, my friend has 2, my mother in law has 1 - all 2nd gen. All of them perfect.
 
No it's not. It depends on conditions of sale. Just take it off the wall before you get the agents around.
If its wired or bolted, fixture. I you remove it or uninstall before the sale, then yes. But you can't change anything once a OTP is signed.

Well exactly. You can do with your house as you please. Just don't wait for the OTP to be signed to take it down, take it down before the agent brings any viewers if you intend taking it with you. It has nothing to do with etiquette or law. It's your home, your inverter. Those antique light fittings your wife likes? Take them with you if you like, just replace them before you have the agent around with clients.
 
As far as removing an inverter / battery / solar goes, it's imperative that you are clear in your OTP (whether buying or selling).

While there could be an argument that the items are regarded as a fixture - we have dealt with a number of attorney's who have advised that due to the fact that you could 'unclip' solar panels (for example), that they are not fixtures for the purposes of sale.

So rather than having a debate or argument, just be very clear about the back-up systems in the OTP (draw it in crayon if you have to!).

That said, for me personally, I would probably rip out someone else's install and sell the kit in the classifieds. I don't want someone else's 2nd hand solar install, but that's just me I guess.

Then you have the Cape Town situation. The whole registration process with the municipality might make it unattractive for the buyer (I doubt it, but it might), In which case you have to remove it.

So I saved all the data from the Sunsynk dongle and compared it to my pre-paid meter readings.

So it looks like it under reports by about 15%, but recently more around 8%.

Note June/July is not so accurate because I had an internet outage on 30 June because of Vox.

Some of this might be due to cloud outages. So it would be interesting to compare it with someone using Solar Assist.

Does "Grid" include the little that trickles back to the grid? The meter counts it as usage.
