The installer suggest we install an automatic changeover for the aux to use excess pv or grid.
For the aux to use excess pv or grid? Since when is the grid excess? And the Aux does not need any automatic changeover switch of any sort, its use is controlled by the inverter.

Tested at around 16H30 today and maximum we could see was 1.6kW from the panels. North facing, no shading.
He says it will take some time (a few days) to for the panels to reach their full potential. Is this true?
A few day huh? Do the panels need "warming up"? :ROFL:
Your panels should perform the best they ever will perform from the first day, after that it's downhill.
 
Just got mine installed today

8x 465W JA Solar Panels
1X Deye 5kWh battery.

Also how were you testing and what was the load?

Important to keep in mind that your PV will only ever generate up to whatever the load is or battery can take. I notice people do get confused about this.

We switched on the geyser, microwave.
I'm new to this and will probably laugh when I look back at my current lack of knowledge.

Hey everyone, apologies if this has been asked I can't seem to find a direct answer since there is so many topics around ZERO Export to load/ct. What I would like to know is: If you are using surplus PV to power non critical loads WITH an external CT on the AC GRID. Will those loads still be given power if the GRID GOES DOWN?

Scenario:
Its around mid day and you are pulling 1500w on your non critical loads, your PV's are pushing surplus in to the non critical load powering that 1500w load so as to not pull from grid, suddenly at that moment the grid drops completely (I know right?, impossible!) What will happen to the non critical load? will the inverter still power the non critical load (while it has enough surplus PV to do so WITH the grid now down) or will it panic and JUST supply critical load?

Asking in context of a deye 5kw system with external CT.

As @Speedster has already said, no, which is why I am looking at moving at least our geysers from non-essential to essential as I manage them and want the ability to run them with excess PV if we have no mains feed.

Keep in mind, with the geyser on essential, it can quickly deplete the battery and this needs some monitoring/automation.
Currently have mine on essential with a CBI ASC and integrated into HA for automation. Been running well this month. I still manually decide whether to run the evening boost, but fine with that since 80%+ of the time there's no need for it. Morning topup is the opposite, always run unless everyone showered the previous evening (and then likely ran the evening boost so SOC already lower than usual).

Yes, as I said, I manage them manually using Hellerman-Tyton smart switches so rarely if ever use battery to run them.

Assuming no shading, best time to test your production capacity is at noon.

As Fcon-Vpro said, you don't.

This is what a few people get confused about, if you have nowhere for the solar to go then it is not going to show any generation or the generation will be limited to what is being used.

To test I would use instant high powered appliances like a hairdryer or kettle (over 4kw together) rather than a geyser unless you definitely know it has not reached temperature.

Then physically look on the inverter and not use the app to confirm what is happening solar wise.

Just keep in mind testing while loadshedding (with & without solar available) vs testing while grid is available.

I don't know your exact battery but if it is a 0.5C one, so will need to keep that in mind as depending on the kettle and microwave this may trip your system.

So wanting to get some advice/feedback on my insall on a 8KW Sunsynk,2x 5.32 system and 12 Canadian Solar.
Some background-I have two roofs (main house and garage) set up and both are North facing with some shade in the morning and from about 3PM (will likely get better with summer rolling in)

I currently have generated 36KWH and can probably do more on a good solar day, but it's all front loaded in the morning and early afternoon. I'm not getting peak production yet since the setup is a bit low on the VOC front (around 155-160 on one string under warmer temps, bit better on the other at 250 odd), so my efficiency appears to be max 90% even with cloud edge.

In hindsight, the selection of panels should have changed as was told by installer they could fit 6 each on both roofs, but they ended up doing 5 on one as the 6th panel would stick out over the side of the roof and be unsafe.

My concern is the low VOC on the 5 string setup and how it will change in warmer weather and how much of a knock it would take to production? If I can push 36KWH on a nice spring day, will that reduce to 30KWH or 25KWH on a hot summer day? Should I get an extra panel and try get it placed in Landscape so it can up the VOC to a more acceptable level? If efficiency is not too affected by the VOC, it might be worth leaving the system as is and save up for another battery rather than getting another panel setup?

The only factor more or less under your control is voltage, which you can control by placing more panels in series, but if you are space-constrained, then this isn't great. It is always good to look at creative ways of fitting more panels in, as @Rouxenator has done quite successfully. Alternatives could also be constructing North-facing window awnings.

Another option to relook at the panel situation entirely, and find a set of panels that are better suited to the inverter's MPPT controller, those with higher voltage at lower amperage may allow the combining of a string in parallel that comes in at under 22A, and thus more efficient, because everything over that gets thrown away.

Alternatively, you could consider swopping the 8K Sunsynk for an 8 or 10K Solis, which, if I recall correctly, has a greater latitude in startup and maximum voltage, and could better suit your needs.
 
Hoping someone can help. My sunsynk app on iOS only sends me a notification when the grid goes off, but it doesn’t notify when the grid comes back. Does anyone know how to fix this?
