All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

Just added a doc to the post. Basically non compliance means disconnection and / or a major fine. It’s hybrid systems / grid tied systems they’re targeting.

Eskom are even deploying drones to identify installed systems on Eskom direct. Not sure if BCM will be doing the same lol.

Are BCM going to tell you to replace your prepaid meter with a smart meter soon? Eskom has just announced it to us and we have a year to comply.

So far it’s around R17k for engineer sign off (structural and electrical) and R9k for DGSL installation and then there’s Eskom’s fees. I just bit the bullet and I think I’m the first in my area to get it done. Fortunately they already replaced my smart meter. Apparently that’s another R8k “deposit” for the prepaid meter users.

Engineer is from EL and reckons BCM are adopting similar stuff to CoCT.
BCM? Buffalo city Municipality?
odd Eskom direct haven't advised us of anything yet

Hi guys, wondering if you can assist here...

I have 9 x 420W panels on my Sunsynk 8KW. I am looking at adding and additional string to the other MPPT. The installer has advised to add 5 x 545W panels, I asked if we can add only 3 at this stage and additional 2 at a later stage and was told a minimum of 5 is needed otherwise the inverter wont register the panels, especially on cloudy days.....how does this logic work?

The MPPT needs a minimum amount of voltage to start-up - the 3 panels might not make that minimum and so you get no generation

Edit: if i remember correctly the 8kw startup is about 150V so you need that amount for generation to kick in

Yep that could happen, depends on the panels.

Looking at the Sunsynk specs the start up voltage is 150V, so your string would need to be configured accordingly.

start up voltage wont be enough for the MPPT - it depends on the panels but rule of thumb is around minimum 4 or 5 panels
honestly the install cost to do it as 3 and then further 2 will probably more then just spending on all 5 now especially at the cost of panels now.

I'm seeing this odd thing happen now and then. I have two strings, String A is on my large roof space and generates most of t he power, and String B gets shaded by late afternoon. I am noticing String A reduces in power, for example a few minutes ago String A was pulling 443 watts, String B 1.4kw. The house draw is around 5kw at the moment. If I flip the breaker on String A it starts pulling 3kw again and then its fine for the day.

It does not happen every day. Some days, it's fine, and some days, I have to go through this process. I'm wondering if I need a firmware update on the inverter, perhaps.

Has anyone seen this on their setups?

Hey fellas. I've been off-grid for 16 months or so but still kept the prepaid municipal meter for emergencies. Now the meter has finally run out and the vendor says that I must pay the municipality R100 per every month that passed since I last recharged.

What kuk is this now?
Which municipality is that? I know that JHB has introduced a flat rate on the meter whether you buy units or not that rolls over month-to-month

Time to add more batteries and solar panels then...
In Cape Town they add that monthly charge to your rates bill. I would not ignore it if I were you. When you sell one day they will lump you with a very large bill. If you can get them to remove your grid connection. Otherwise you are unfortunately liable for those fees.

5KW inverter and 2*5kwh volta batteries installed today.
The inverter is running according to the settings done by the installer.
I want to start to play with the settings, buy they are way too confusing for me at the moment. Going through the userguide as of now.
What I want to achieve is solar power to power the house during the day and excess to charge the battery, when no solar I want to run off the batteries until it reaches 20%, then use the grid until the sun is up.

If this is a Deye or Sunsynk you need to set this up on the timer/ TOU settings

2 out of 3 plants are not showing live data this morning, but the graph at the bottom is updating. Sunsunk App.

Anyone else?
