All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

5KW inverter and 2*5kwh volta batteries installed today.
The inverter is running according to the settings done by the installer.
I want to start to play with the settings, buy they are way too confusing for me at the moment. Going through the userguide as of now.
What I want to achieve is solar power to power the house during the day and excess to charge the battery, when no solar I want to run off the batteries until it reaches 20%, then use the grid until the sun is up.
Under the "System Mode" section "work mode 1" screen, on the table view set your soc to 20% for each timeslot.
Then under "Work mode 2" screen, select prioritize load.
Just remember that 20% is very aggressive and your system might power down as there wont be much battery available.

I have a 5kw battery and 1 5kwh battery. The below settings get me on pretty much zero Eskom if there is sufficient sun during the day. This will change once it gets hot in KZN and I'll need the aircon during the night

@Fcon_Vpro is right about the low discharge of 20%, but I monitor my usage pretty aggressively and have reduced my baseload overnight a ton, so usually the battery doesn't drop passed 35-40% overnight before the PV kicks in in the morning

I'm not sure when I'll have time to set it up and how I'm going to integrate it into my existing setup. There are a few options I have in how I'm going to integrate this into my existing setup.

I'm not sure when I'll have time to set it up and how I'm going to integrate it into my existing setup. There are a few options I have in how I'm going to integrate this into my existing setup.

So I'm looking at two possible ways to integrate this.

Option 1

Probably the quickest and cheapest is to just connect the output directly to the battery. The problem with this is that the sunsynk inverter will not see what the wind turbine is putting into the battery but it will see that the battery SOC is increasing. I will not know what is being generated from the wind turbine.

Option 2

Get 5kw sunsynk inverter and connect the wind turbine to the new 5kw sunsynk inverter. The sunsynk mppt can be configured to connect directly to the wind turbine without the controller that I received with the turbine. The output of the 5kw sunsynk can then be connected to the aux on the 8kw sunsynk as a grid tied system so the 8kw sunsynk becomes the grid for 5kw sunsynk.

The second option will be more expensive but it gives me a lot more options in terms of expanding further later on. The 5kw sunsynk can then also have its own battery bank and solar assist monitoring.

Any reason why you would not be connecting the turbine to the 8kw inverter aux input?

Very interesting. Is there a specific reason you had for getting the turbine? It's generally a pretty terrible value for $ per kWh.

This is what I did. I am still figuring out the software so used the screen on the inverter instead. what do u think ?

I tested the above settings and its not working as I expected. Battery was 100%, Solar production was 1.5kw and load was 1.3, nothing was being pulled from the Grid, I increased the load (turned on my griller) and solar production jumped to 2kw but it started pulling from the Grid.
I don't want that, I want it to pull from the battery

What is on your aux currently?
 
The 5kw there is a misnomer. There is no way you're realistically getting close to 5kW out of a turbine on your property.

So over time, even if you pay more initially for extra panels and batteries, you'll produce way more energy over time.

Yeah. I looked into wind generation and, unfortunately being in Pretoria, it was a total non-starter. I'd love something that could give 300W 24-7. The guy who develops that will become very rich very quickly.

That's how it is supposed to work - When batteries are full, solar generation will match the load. From about now the load will be greater than generation so will pull from batteries until 22% - after which it will then pull from grid

Edit: did it pull continuously from the grid or momentarily? It takes a few seconds for the solar to ramp back up again to match the load and that gap is covered by grid

I'm under no impression that this will give me 5kw but the idea is to get an average of 300w to 500w per hour as a supplement to the solar. Especially at night time or overcast conditions.

I'm in Somerset West and have decent wind here.

Regarding the aux on the sunsynk. There is currently nothing connected to the aux. I don't think I can connect the output of the wind turbine controller directly to the aux on the sunsynk. The aux is only AC input or output. The wind turbine controller is a DC output.

I already have 10.37kwp on the two mppts of the sunsynk. I have space for another 5kw of solar panels but this will need an additional inverter or an upgrade from the 8kw to a 12kw inverter.

I have 24kWh of batteries already which is adequate for my night time usage provided they get charged to at least 90% before sunset. I'm summer and spring this is not a problem but the rest of the time I can't get them fully charged from the sun only.

It's my busy time of the year right now and sufficient sun so no rush or urgency to get this setup yet.

All in including shipping and import duties this came to R35k. I only need to generate 9 000kWh from this setup to recover my cost at current electricity prices.

I gave it 5-6 mins. Solar was maxed out at around 2 (it was cloudy) then it started pulling from the Grid. Nothing from the battery.
I will check it tonight to see if it pulls from the battery.
