My service is for the mid to low income group, who dont have R730 a month to push into an account + ADSL line fees. If someone apply with me, and state they want super fast service I wont push them onto nukecap when I cant offer them that.

Its about Customer satisfaction at the end of the day, and not your wallet.
It's called segmentation of the market, and obviates the need for dubious advertising campaigns fraught with misleading statements, or contractual terms with the potential for ripping-off the consumer. Marketing101.
Methinx AYCE's challenges are additionally not serving their business objectives too well - at this point, the AYCE reputation in this community could not possibly be any lower. If AYCE wish to improve their esteem in the eyes of this community, they should provide proof positive of this by withdrawing the contract entirely, and adjusting their offerings to a monthly service with a suitably adjusted rate. Ye shall not find redemption by any other means, O Sinner!

You asked for an opinion on AllYouCanEat. Here's mine after using it for about a week: It's great. I don't notice any difference between the speeds on AYCE and a normal 3GB account (before getting capped of course).

I cannot say how it will be next week or the week after that, but for the moment it's fast and at R480 for 30 GB it's the best deal around. I will be very surprised if something significantly better comes along anytime soon.

It doesnt matter if you're surprised or not - you'll be stuck with them.

Not not be a nagging b@tch, but i think this all you can eat is a buncha crap. Too convinient if you ask me.

Sorry but the uunet offering atm for R730 / month without any contract and NO CAP for real is better option allready.

Man!! I hope someone starts another one of these topics. This is better than late night TV! :D

*Gets popcorn out of microwave and waits for next reply*

Oh, and IMO, signing a 12 month contract with someone who couldn't/wouldn't give us a decent answer two weeks ago after numerous questions probably isn't a good idea. :(

That is your opinion, uunet speeds don't compare to AYCE. Uunet is R250 more than AYCE. Uunet pings are way higher and more unstable than AYCE.

So the question is, is 30gigs enough for you? If not then go for uunet otherwise stick with the better service AYCE

I would sign up with AYCE if there was a garauntee in the contract.

e.g. We garauntee that we will supply you with 512 Kbits / second access to a point on the SAIX backbone that is 2MB's wide and shared amongst a maximum number of 2500 users. This access point at SAIX has access to a 1MB's international line that runs into the USA (Denver exchange), and provides access to SAIX South Africa's 1MB's backbone.

or - more simply:

If you are dissatisfied with the throughput provided while utilising the AUCE service, you may opt out of the contract at any time.

Put that in the contract and AYCE be swamped with requests and could even become the leading ADSL ISP. Until the 940 per month kicks in of course.

I'm going to love it come April 1st when this topic can finally be put to rest - how many people are going to sign after that with the normal rate of just under R1000 per month when they can get an uncapped service for r300 less?

Ok for starters not everyone care about the lowest latency in games. Uunet get the same ping to mweb servers, bit lower than saix actually and it gets bit higher 15-20ms to the saix counterparts. The setup of uunet these days is very very good, compared to the days of bandwidth problems.

Atm the only difference I see between uunet and saix accounts is the following:

1.) Uunet shaping is far superior, you can see this on international with WOW for instance.
2.) Both uunet and saix giving me full torrent speeds.
3.) Uunet ping to mweb is the same and sometimes bit lower than saix to mweb. uunet to saix is bit higher 15-20ms than saix to saix.

Take it as you want, its a better service than AYCE by a longshot.

@clipse : As you seem to have experience with uunet offering.
How are the ping times on international gaming servers ?
Are they better or the same like the saix offer ?

Thanks

Oli

Freek... UUNET speeds ownz0r since the bandwidth upgrades. im sitting on +50gigs down and +40gigs up ... on 384k adsl ... and what its only the 23rd.

30gigs ... for total traffic... the same joke as 3gigs... if your expected to sign a 12monht contract and pay serious money for it. Remember that you if you use any p2p applications your looking at a realistic download average of only about 18-20gigs down. For some ye.. thats great. For others... no thanks im not paying money for that. I'm happy with uunet.

ok now i heard guys saying they download 140 gig of info locally but how do they do that i mean even international on a month to month i cant think of 10 gig or more to download
SPOON dude forget these uunet trolls and sign with ayce i signed up and im happy 480 for 30 gig i will never reach my cap.
i doubt uunet's pings are alot better than saix although i dont know but i mean if im getting 340 on a bf server overseas prolly wont get much beta with uunet.

SIGN WITH THEM AYCE IS A REALLY GOOD CHOICE.
the funny thing is im pushing this company and i dont work for them thats how i much i like them .

how is 303 gigs same as 3 gigs your getting 30 gig internationally that is 10 times more than i was getting i repeat ten times more international bandwidth for around 160 more as im with rip off company mweb

u do know that ayce are using the saix service so you will get what you get with every other company. the speeds are the same as mweb or telkom

jeepers this isnt a forum to discuss its a place to try and give company's bad names by using employees to sit and rip em down.

shame uunet is a little scared me thinks

Lets do a comparison:

UUNET:
Reputation: Long term well established ZA bandwidth provider.
In operation: 10 years+.
Price: +- R700 pm
Cap: None
Contract: None
Risk of change in TOS: Small ... UUNET use their own bandwidth.

AYCE:
Reputation: Piss poor. Blatanly lied and deceived people in order to garner more custom.
In operation: 1 month.
Price: +- R980 pm
Cap: 30GB
Contract: 12 months.
Risk of change in TOS: Huge. Telkom can **** them whenever they feel like it e.g. Uncapped became capped to 30GB overnight.

I know which one I would go for.

PS: I have zero affiliation with UUNET.
PPS: I have nothing against small companies ... when they offer a decent service/product.

Harth - I think your signature needs updating ... in the Trolls section. AYCE - you shouldn't be comming in here acting as "killadoob" . Go home

This has all become very interesting. You cant really tell who works for who, but I will give you my honest opinion on the whole matter....

I have just recently returned from england where I had a 4MB pipe into my apartment, yes its true, I was paying £50 a month. Thats it. No line rental and the crap we have to deal with here, but things are changing.

I download off news servers which I have been doing for years, so I know that I can get a good idea bandwidth speeds over a time period.

Using the telkom (saix account) you get average speeds during the day and at night I reach fairly constant speeds of about 50Kps, on a 3GB cap I cant really download much, so I was looking into going uncapped. After speaking to the extremely unfriendly and rude people over at AYCE I decided not to go with them cause of the ridiculous requests for a long term contract as you have all mentioned. So I looked for another option which is UUnet, I managed to get a test account going for the last 24 hours and I have to say that UUnet doesnt measure up to Saix. As much as it pains me to admit, i couldnt get any constant speeds, it was bouncing around from 10Kps to 2Kps which is abysmal and when you try to download big files it just gets stuck.

So where does that leave me you might ask? I refuse to sign with AYCE until they wake up and smell the coffee and offer a decent deal, and I wont sign with a UUnet backer cause the service just isnt really good. I guess Im just gonna hang in there with my lousy 3Gb a month and hope that things change quickly.
