I didnt say it was the same... i said same joke. as in... same rippoff. Its not my fault u were being ripped off by mweb.. so ur r160 extra is irrelevant! U AYCE fanz... all seem to choose not to notice the 12month contract. Most of us say... their... march price was good (untill they cap'd it). but their reputation is crap, their contract is crap. eish... i actually dont really know why im bothering to reply, cos i can tell by ur 3 posts u dont really understand much of the arguments... SORRY RPM ... not trying to start a fight... just frustrated.
 
JC-JC. I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments. It is a very sad thing one has to get used to after being in the UK. But I would say that I have heard from others here that at some stage UUNet wasn't so good, but they now have improved their performance.

Does anybody else here care to comment on this. Common UUnet - wheres that Test Account for Antowan!!! Let us hear the real deal.

Still downloading like mad on the AYCE account. I only have till the end of this month.

The account is still kicking and speeds are good.
 
I heard from several people using UUNET accounts that the download performance is on par with SAIX ADSL. But I can't vouch for that.
 
I woz running UUNET. It woz fantastic, with landing points in AUZ, USA, UK and EUROPE.
Then it all went for a ball of eep.
3 days before my subscription expired, it all came back, but, the AUZ, UK and EUROPE landing points were gone. Back to routing through USA. So - if you want to access sites in USA, it's going to give you sub 400ms pings to just about anywhere in the States. AUZ = sub 650, EUROPE = sub 500.
Stability was damn good, could not tell the difference between office hours and non-office hours.
WebAfrica are willing to give you a trial period - phone them and ask.
 
UUNET trial account

I just had a UUNET trial account via WebAfrica. Speed was good - though some hickups with https sides. VoiP was bad compared with my present ISP, even Skype didn't work well with them. Happily switched back to Mweb.
 
I tried an Uncapped ADSL account from WebAfrica today. I won't get too technical into ping times, download speeds etc.

I would definately recommend it for office use, and will try and convince my boss to get an account! As for browsing, ftp, mail etc it is perfect (as you would expect). As for myself, I won't be spending R720 p/m on this, that is for sure.

The fact that P2P is shaped like it is, I couldn't connect to some bittorrent trackers, others were really slow (10-20k/sec). Also, I ran the ADSL speedtest on adslguide.org.uk a few times, and it returned a speed of 9 Kbps. The local one, www.telkom.co.za/dsl/speed.shtml gave a speed of about 38 Kbps (seems normal). Tried to do the one on dslreports.com but all the servers were busy.

As for gaming, locally, to various servers, nothing was under 100 ms. I tried playing a game of warcraft on the offical battle net servers (European one) and it was pretty painful (lots of pauses and general lag).

So close yet so far for me.

P.S. This is just my personal opinion, like I said, I'd love to use this at work.

Then again it's almost at cost price for UUNET resellers. That makes me worry a bit if they are not making much profit!
Will they be around in a years time? As I HATE signing up with a company and just when you need them most they
go bankrupt or change there prices. Most of these companies that offer cheaper prices also offer less support!
I tend to shop for a middle ground price and it's work most of the time for me. Well that my opinion.

i dont work for ayce i just signed and i am so happy i did. ive ben downloading from edonkey for the last 9 days almost d/led 20 gigs speeds are just like saix which makes sense because thats what they are using.

uunet pings to usa of 400ms eish adsl is faster on gaming server i get around 350

for me uunet may be a long running company but that doesnt mean crap i mean look at mweb good service and expensive

mweb basically rip their users off with high prices but we pay because service is good
although im leaving mweb now for ayce and hope they are all they say they are.

guys say to yourselfs this 30 gigs of info then look at your 3 gig accounts and say 3 gigs.

It seems to indicate that there is no guaranteed 30Gb cap... they are simply relying on the fact that some use plenty while others use min... my guess is that most users will be big downloaders - why else need more than 3Gb... so.... what happens when they reach cap - what do you actually get.... ARE YOU AT ANY POINT GUARANTEED THIS 30GB?????

i spoke to the guy there say if i dont get my 30 i can cancel my contract at anytime.

tell me if you pay uunet or mweb a certain fee for 12 months isnt that the same paying ayce for 12 months cept i get 27 gig more than mweb and telkom users.

Certainly not - when the empire crumbles and prices drop, we wont be stuck with OLD rates... e.g. when start your cellphone contract, get your so called free phone and discover that your mate who signed up six months later gets a toaster and dvd with his, don't you feel a little done in?
 
That argument doesn't work, You had 6 months more privallages than him. What was he doing in that time, sulking... AYCE contract isn't half bad. 12months flies, They are decent enough to allow you to cancel the contract if they don't meet service levels. So basically if they say in june we only allowing 20gigs they allow you to cancel as well.

For the couple months we getting 30gigs, you fools are still counting every bit untill the dreaded 3gig is reached... Have fun at that...
 
lol right on freek about time someone helped me here. i remember those days saying i only have a 100 megs a day then i was 2 days behind so i only had like 40 for the day if i wanted a big file had to make sure i wouldnt get capped lol. ed robinson when in the next 12 month do you think you will 30 gig of info for 480? telkom no mweb no uunet is kuk for gaming shapes p2p so is uunet really uncapped they only uncapped cause you cant use p2p i mean the only reason i could reach 30 gig is because of p2p and AYCE. have the same shaping as telkom. UUNET IS NOT FOR HOME USERS.

im so happy that in 8 months im gonna have 30 gg for 480 i wish there was a 24 month contract cause i would sign it.
