I am just about fed up with dstv, not due to lack of service or anything. But Simply lack of technological advance.

I have 4 hd tvs. It is in a bed and breakfast.

I have had endless trouble with XtraView between my SD PVR 2 (Channel) and HD PVR (single View) + a separate SD decoder. Specifically with the remotes, half having to be SD remotes, and the other HD remotes.

These are all connected with RF cable. This immediately takes the HD signal away from the tvs connected on the rf network.

For this I am paying over R1000.00 a month.

Is there no realist alternative?

I have lan and wifi throughout the property.

My Thoughts have been putting a Rasbery Pie 2 at each tv, However I am not confident enough that showmax will be a suitable replacement for dstv as many guests watch sport and overseas news channels.

I have considered upgrading to Xplora and then doing an Xtra view between my Xplora + Hd PVR

But this then again, limits the hd signal to the remotely connected tvs.

I just feel stuck, on such a simple thing in such an advanced digital world.

So appart from me ranting.

What dstv soltion can I get working.

I need 4 independently changeable tv channels?

Rasbery Pi with Kodi running on it.

Show max is cute and all, but with Kodi you can set up sportsdevil and genisis, and all international sport is open for you.

you can also use the Explora from DSTV and get supersport running, unfortunately I have no idea how that works.

Also if you do that, I recommend Advertising it. I know a lot of people that will choose that option over DSTV in a BNB even if it is more expensive than other options.

Okay the explora can only do one channel for viewing anyway, why not have four hd decoders, the hdmi feed can be supplied via lan to the TVs

Hi Zapo

One solution that might work for you is to have 4 hd decoders. One decoder for each room that will offer high definition content via a hdmi cable. This will require 2 decoders in extraview + 2decoders in extraview. Hope this info helps in any way.

This will never fly because it has a learning curve, is often unreliable (searching for streams) and the quality is not what would be expected. OP will spend most of his time trying to support the offering or trying to calm frustrated guests.

Go with the 4 HD decoders in extraview pairs and rather downgrade the packages to either Extra or Compact.

I've been dstv free for 2+ years but very little can top dstv for simplicity and the sports offering.

4 HD single view decoders at R299 a piece in extraview don't worry about pvr and explora for those uses.
