Alternative Cryptocurrencies (General Discussion & Trading)

Had some ETH in Binance, and bought some TNB with it. Let's see what happend. It will probably halve in value now because I bought it :crylaugh:

Exodus added a bunch of new coins. Almost all of them currently up nicely. I'm so annoyed now because two nights ago I wanted to trade some BTC for some of the new coins, but I was too drunk and since I have a habit of fscking things up when I'm drunk, I closed the laptop and went to bed. :(

Jirre I did that as well, and instead of sending ETH, I withdrew from ACT back into my ACT address, incurring a fee, and then only sending it to Binance :o

:p

I've done it all, but my most common one is buying the wrong coin, then I have to sell it and buy the correct one incurring multiple fees. Once, I only realised my mistake the next day and sold the "wrong" coin and bought the correct one. When I went to coinmarketcap to check, the damn thing was busy making a u-turn down :o

The ZCL creator and co. are going Bitcoin Private (BTCP) mad on Sunday the 28th with the first ever official Bitcoin Private conference. ZCL already had a spike since the announcement but may react more positive towards and on conference day. If they announce a date, we may see something special happening to ZCL’s value. Little to no development, but all marketing.

Why is there no eth/zar trading pair on Luno. Only eth\btc.
Is there a reason for Luno doimg this.

But btc/zar trading pair there is.

I hope that this turns into something special,

I realise they're legit, but what irks me is a KYC procedure before I even know what I'm investing in and what the investment options are. I really dislike dishing out all my details at the start like that. Anyway...went off to first check 'em out and found this:

Which states will have access to Robinhood Crypto?
Robinhood Crypto will initially be available to customers in California, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, and New Hampshire. We plan to add support for more states soon.

What have you heard about them?

Fun...ny story. I am new to crypto and Exodus was my first wallet 2 months ago when I got in. I think I had about R1000 rand worth of bitcoin which was my first experiment in just exploring wallets and sending crypto etc. Anyway so I bought Fun (Funfair) on the exchange on exodus to just "test the waters" and it was the cheapest coin. Anyway I got a few hundred fun and learned a lesson about fees and didn't bother exchanging them back to anything "respectable".

I think Fun 10Xed in the 2 weeks after I did that.

Hold the FUN, I have a whole bunch and don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon

FUN still has a lot of potential this year if casinos adopt their platform.
Their team is constantly growing too.

Yes they do. I only knew what fun was after I realised I had a few decent shekels worth.

Hey that's the life of a crypto noob. My second ever transaction was to accept R500 fiat rand from a friend who I had gotten excited about crypto. I then sent it from my luno into their exodus wallet (of my own equivalent R500 Btc) to realise it cost me a R250 rand fee.

:)

Where possible, use ETH. Transactions are cheaper and quicker.
Use coinmarketcap.com as your starting point - look something up, check out the social tab, go to their website, see how active their reddit is etc.

Good luck with it.

Thanks bud, but all advice that would have been useful perhaps a month and 3 weeks ago. I am up to speed (and more) by now though.

Going to counter signal you on Ether though....transactions can be very slow/and or expensive if your gas limits/settings aren't researched.

What have you heard about them?

I have known about Robinhood, but never investigated how it works since it is unavailable to me, and since I’m pro privacy, decentralisation, net neutrality and community in the crypto space this seems to be a winning recipe,

https://techcrunch.com/2018/01/25/free-cryptocurrency-trading-app/

Robinhood adds zero-fee cryptocurrency trading and tracking

No-commission stock trading app Robinhood will let you buy and sell Bitcoin and Ethereum without any added transaction fees starting in February, compared to Coinbase’s 1.5 to 4 percent fees in the US. And as of today Robinhood will let all users track the price, news, and set up alerts on those and 14 other top crypto coins, including Litecoin and Ripple.

“We’re planning to operate this business on a break-even basis and we don’t plan to profit from it for the foreseeable future” says Robinhood co-founder Vlad Tenev. “The value of Robinhood Crypto is in growing our customer base and better serving our existing customers.”

By essentially using crypto trading as a loss leader instead of its primary business like Coinbase and other apps, Robinhood could substantially expand beyond the 3 million users it already has. Simplifying trading and tracking could bolster Bitcoin and Ethereum. And by combining it with traditional stock, ETF, and option trading in a single app, Robinhood could further legitimize the cryptocurrency craze. The two trading worlds could cross-pollinate, dragging even more people into the crypto scene.

Many of the startups dealing in crypto are upstarts with questionable track records. But five-year-old Robinhood has raised $176 million from top investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Index, and NEA that now value the company at $1.3 billion. There’s clear long-term benefit to rolling up crypto traders and using the feature as a wedge to get them to hold money with Robinhood where it earns interest, and pay for the Robinhood Gold premium tier for $6 to $200 a month that lets them borrow between $1,000 and $50,000.

...

As for whether he’s personally invested in the crypto scene, Tenev admits “I’m a dabbler, definitely, but I wouldn’t say that it’s all that significant.” But it’s a good fit for his business, which used a lean engineering team to drop stock trading fees to zero while competitors like Scottrade and E*trade can charge over $6 per trade to cover their marketing and expansive retail footprint with huge overhead. Now Robinhood has handled $100 billion in transactions, saving its users over $1 billion in fees.

“[Cryptocurrency] puts power that’s historically been held by financial institutions in the hands of the people. I think that lines up directly with Robinhood’s mission to democratize the financial system” Tenev tells me, concluding “We’re an established company and we can handle it”. The confidence to burst into the wild west of crypto could either tank his startup with a massive security fail or greatly boost its traction by alligning with what’s become a cultural phenomenon.

In a community sense I hope this is widely adopted. This may be a game changer in our marketplace IF it comes to SA.

Essentially this trading app puts the idea behind crypto back into crypto.

Luno is terribly slow.
Everywhere else I wait an average of around 2 - 5 minutes with a 25 gwei gas fee.
With myetherwallet I usually just check https://ethgasstation.info/ beforehand and adjust GAS accordingly.

Oh I agree. As long as your gas limit is contextual then you won't have an issue. Again just put it out there for noobs to be aware of.
