Alternative to Plex on Fire TV

It seems that you have not selected a master server. That could be the issue.
 
You would need to enter the ip address or host name of the server and the port (default is 32400).
 
I'm guessing the IP address is the router one? Or is it the PC one? (My PC is the server) And where do I find the port? Or do I leave the default one in?
 
Also, can you see your sections under Settings > Plexbmc?
 
It would be the IP address of the server aka your PC. Since it sounds like you have not changed it, go with the default port.
 
Before you enter it manually, what is shown when you open the "Select master server..." menu option?
 
When I say select master server, it comes up with a blank window
 
OK. The plex app on the fire TV can still connect to the plex server? If so, please continue with the manual configuration. I currently have the same issue and needed to configure the server address manually to be able to select the master server.

The Plex app does connect to the master server as long as I keep the server (Web Browser) open on my PC. If its closed, then the Plex app doesn't load.
 
That is definitely not supposed to be the case. Please see my previous post. I've just edited it.
 
And its strange as If I close the web browser, it just minimizes it and shows it open on the tray menu, but then the Plex will not load. If I have the internet open on the server, then the Plex app works fine! Very strange......... But this shows that the default Plex app can connect to the Plex server,
 
That is not normal. I never log into the Web app and all my devices and the fire TV connects just fine. Something is fishy with your setup.
 
Well I'm not sure what the issue is! I downloaded the Plex app on my phone and it worked with no issues what's so ever! It seems to be something with the Fire TV. I have done research and many people have issues with Plex on the Fire TV 2 which is the one I have.
 
Should I maybe try and enter the IP manually on PlexBMC?
 
Ok, its working now. Putting in the IP did the trick. I checked the Playback and its working great! Now how do I customize the layout? When I go to movies, it shows what's been recently added and I have to click the down arrow to access the other features. How do I make it that when I go to movies, it shows me all the movies I have in Plex. And another thing, when I went to Kodis home screen, it carried on Playing the movie in the background, I could hear it playing. How do I stop it from doing that? And then one more thing, is there an easier way to access it?? Its a real mission going all the way to settings and then applications and then manage applications and then kodi and then launch kodi....
 
1. When you say go to movies, do you mean hovering on movies or actually opening the movies menu option?

2. You have to stop or pause the movie. :) It's Kodi so it keeps on playing in the background as it allows you to multi task. If you press the back button on the fire TV it should take you back to the movie.

3. There were ways to do it on the fire TV 1 by installing Kodi from the app store or adding a task but I'm not sure if that will work for you. I never close Kodi as you can launch other apps from within it.

A neat trick with Kodi is that allows you to force the 16:9 aspect ratio for videos.

3. Ok, Ill see if I can find a way.... This is just a backup for when the default Plex app stops working. My family already know how to use the default method so I would rather keep it that way. And I prefer the default layout as I struggle to understand how to use Kodi, where with the default OS, its simple and I know how to use it and where to access everything. And I don't mean Plex, I mean the Fire TV OS compared with Kodi.
 
1. As far as I know that's not possible. Hovering is for recently added and on-deck items.

3. I've tried the Plex app a few times and it's just too basic for me. Kodi allows you to send YouTube videos from your phone as well (similar to casting it).
