Am I being crazy for declining this offer?

Did they ask for your payslip before making you an offer? I was listening to an interview on the radio the other day and they advised people not to share their current payslip when a potential employer asks for it, because it pigeon holes you in terms of what you could negotiate for. Makes absolute sense.

I think what you need to think about:
I would assume that as a big company, they would have to follow the law, by opening up a pension/provident fund for you when/if you become permanent. This would mean (based on how much they contribute) that there would be even more money coming out of your salary.
So ask them what would be the improvement on your salary if you were to get a permanent position after the year is up. Because you don't want to get only say R2000 improvement which will basically leave your take home exactly (if not even less) where you are now.

If I were you, I would consider all the above and what others have also pointed out before making a decision.

They did ask for my payslip. And I will take what everyone said into consideration.

Discovery. I'm 28 and male and I do harmful activities like boxing. You guys seem like you get taken to the cleaners! Coastal Core option.
 
I'd never give them my current payslip. That's an excuse to get a **** offer that's only 10-15% more or "market related" (read excuse to pay you a pittance).

I want to be paid what I'm worth, not as little as you can get away with. Grow a backbone people!
 
I offered my payslip they took it seemed to nod and said here is an offer it was almost double what I was earning. Even after all CTC comes off I am still coming out smiling.

It's a monopoly.

My rule is if the companay behaves badly I wouldn't be happy there.

Having said that I'm sure your career will be better off there because they can provide training etc. 1 year contract sounds like a very long probationary period. Some companies tend to abuse that by reducing benefits and just replacing people after the period is up. No idea if that's the case here.

Location is also important if you have dependents.

Which is the same with where I am now. Am I crazy for thinking of declining this offer?

I am looking for career advice and I know myBB people are smart and give sound advice. I would really appreciate your help.

I would stay with the job security for the same amount of money.

+1 I always respond with ''I want to be paid what the market demands for my skills".
 
I work for a division of Naspers as a programmer. As a programmer you will be highly valued especially as a senior. I started off as contract and moved to permanent. Its great and have not looked back. As a contractor btw after 3 months you should get the DSTV reduced fee.

Nowhere does giving your payslip automatically mean you have to accept the offer.



Recently changed jobs and they also wanted my payslip and came back with an offer of 20% more.



Told them the reasons i like working where I'm working isn't all about money and declined.



They came back with another 20% on top of original offer.

Everything is in your control. Don't be desperate and you'll be fine.
