Am I crazy?

I love your user name. It's like you knew this day was coming more than 6 years ago.

Oh, and yes, you are a ****ing certifiable lunatic. Stay away from me please.

Thank you, I'm not sure if you're joking about the second part.

[Within that 2 additional hours]
I usually eat breakfast, take a multivitamin read the news and mentally prepare myself for the day ahead.

Why don't you do that at home?

That leaves me with an hour, I usually use it to brush up on product knowledge and familiarise myself with anything new.

Whilst exercising your brain and continual learning is a good thing, you sound like you are merely going through the motions here. Take a break, or learn something not related to work.

I use blackout curtains, switch off all electronics before attempting to sleep, I literally stare at the ceiling for an hour, my mind continues to race thinking about the days events and it won't stop. Eventually I do fall asleep but this is at around 22:00 - 24:00.

Old rule from the insommniacs, never, never lie in bed staring at the walls. You need to re-associate your brain-body with the bed as a place of sleep. If you can't fall asleep, get up, read, do the ironing, tinker in the garage, something until you literally can't keep your eyes open.

Even try @Chuckmyster 's drink. Warm milk with or without a shot of whiskey will work wonders.

I also get extremely anxious, to the point where I fear speaking out loud. I had an altercation with someone the other day and it triggered a fight or flight response, I chose flight, didn't even know what I said to him but it included resigning. As I stood there packing my bag my right leg wouldn't stop shaking, I couldn't breath and my heart was pounding really fast to the point that I couldn't breathe.

This part is simply comedy gold. You may not see it, but this was funny. On a serious note, seek professional help with this bit.

I can almost guarantee that op is in Cape town and works in the CBD

I would be very depressed if that was my life. I'd probably need alcohol or antidepressants to cope will such a mundane schedule. You better be earning huge money to give you some piece of mind.

Do you at least have a hobby that you do on weekends? People need time to do things that they enjoy that aren't work related. Hobbies, exercise, social and family life are all important.

Many in the cities living like that. I agree, it is not for me. Must really enjoy your job to make it worth it.

Pfft I earn a mediocre salary, I'm going back to study next year.

Anxiety. Do you feel 'hollow' sometime? paralyzed and numb?
Well I posted a thread a couple of months ago relating to depression, to answer your question yes, yes and yes.

I think you would benefit from some social time and interaction with other human beings that you have a personal relationship with (ie. not work colleagues)
Pets, hobbies are all good also as they give your life purpose beyond you job (which seems to be the primary focus of you life right now = not a good thing)
Once you get more balance in life i'm sure you will be less anxious and with some happy pheromones running through your body getting to sleep will hopefully be a natural thing.

I have 4 kids between the ages 7 and 14 = no problems falling asleep as i usually pass out before my head hits the pillow each night - a bit extreme but you can always adopt :)
(nb. that last sentence was in jest!)

Stopped the weed, stopped feeling sorry for myself, disassociated myself from friends who kept trying to influence me into the wrong lifestyle.

Your routine seems to be lacking exercise which can actually help you fall asleep. I 99% of the time, fall asleep much quicker if I have had exercise that day. How about considering doing a morning gym session before work ? Find a gym located close to where you work. That is one less hour to sit around, which sounds exhausting. Even I would be depressed if I had to sit around 2 hours before work. So why not utilize it to exercise?

Why two hours early for work? Traffic? Cant you adjust your work hours to fit that? This is going to kill you, especially if you arrive home late in the evening. Either this is a stepping stone job, or you make a ton of cash, or you should look for a job where you have more time for yourself.

You need to be doing excersize when you get home, will help with the sleep cycle.
