Am I Paying To Much?

Shame, this is just sad. Not sure why you did not research your upgrade better? I build all my upgrades almost exclusively from Classifieds on sites like Prophecy. As an example, there was a Q9650 for sale today for 3200 I think? The price even dropped after that. You may want to cancel that CPU and look again...

YUP! Thats the one. Sorry I should have outlined my post a lil better. I was in a excited rush & am almost dead with a darn cold.

That is a good price indeed. Does this have a local warranty or is it grey?

I had a look around at a few sites, thing is they were willing to deliver in a few weeks, I unfortunately needed a PC by next week. Its my own fault I guess.

Lets hope this one lasts me as long! :D

Tut, tut. I have an esquire account in Durbs, you could've ordered through me and simply collected.

They should've still given you the 4gigs ram. Even if xp can only pick up around 3.5gigs of it. At least you would've had dual channel and you would've had the 4gigs for when you go 64bit.

I presume they put that on their adverts that you're always reporting on? ;)

I have a close relationship with the owners and when I first discovered them, I also assumed there must be dodgy dealings going on. But so far, I haven't found any fault with them.
I even asked when if they buy stolen goods or what cos their stuff's so cheap

Two weeks to get a 4850? Is that when their next consignment of grey imports is scheduled to arrive?

Ok sooo a very weird thing happened today. I phoned to see if my PC was rdy for pickup & was rudely told if I didn't receive a call then I shouldnt assume that it was finished...

I then gave the guy my Order # since my order should have been rdy by Friday or Sat the earliest & I was told that I WOULD get a call on Sunday or today if it was late...

When I give the Order #, the guy on the phone makes me wait just over 5 mins & another chap comes on the line saying how sorry they are for the inconveniance & how is it they can help me & that he has noticed some discrepancies in my order that he would like to rectify.

At this point I'm about to take off with him when he explains that I CAN change the board to one of my choice as well as increase my RAM to a max of 4GBs & if I dont mind waiting 2 weeks I can get the 4850.

So to recap, I can get the 4850 for R1780.00 or the 9600 for R1300.000. I get to keep the old G31 MB that comes with the tower & can upgrade the board to one I prefer & pay a balance.

I'm kinda stumped at what to do. If I get the 4850, I might as well go with 4GB's but then I'll need Vista.

Sorry man, this is one of the reasons I've never bought a pc from them. I'd rather stick to just buying their components.

Hope they sort it out soon.

LOL I have nooo idea. From what I've heard about them & after perusing Hello Peter, I dont know what to do.

Thing is they've done a total 180 & are grovelling for a sale & I don't know WHY...

I'm thinking if they haven't built the Unit, I might as well scrap the order, take my loss & by from someone reasonable.

My only issue with purchasing online is the warranty & how returns are dealt with, its why I like to deal with someone on a face to face basis...

I've bought my current quad components from NGR Computers in Westville. Also bought more ram and fans from them this year and the stuff was personally delivered by them on each occasion :)

How's their pricing?

Ghost to be honest, I can't remember now - I have to dig around for the invoice but @ the time they were reasonable also considering there's no delivery charge for Durban.

The guy I deal with knows his stuff and is really helpful :). I was contemplating getting the WD 1TB hdd from them, but alas don't think they stock it @ present. Proly settle for the 750gig for now (seeing as I've gone Neo Prime :D)
