Amazon.co.za is live

Have found one random wrinkle in their system which just requires a bit more vigilance.

Not every product is eligible for Free Delivery, so you would get charged a delivery fee if you have one of those products in your cart, regardless of the overall value of the basket.
This happens in the UK as well, on some items. Even with Prime subscription.

Hence Basics numbnuts. They’re good products for frugal folks.
Not just for frugal folks. The cables are excellent.

Is there a BEE stake in the local offering? The slightly downtrodden nature of the catalogue (Volkano tat, shitty books, no high end electronics) doesn't feel like the Amazon I'm used to.

Did receive my order today at 12 o clock, @AfricanTech .
Was next day delivery.
They used DPD Laser.

Still waiting for mine. Also DPD - it’s out for delivery according to DPD sms.

Edit: and it arrived. Next day as promised

Clever algorithm - I had two orders, one with 1 item and another with 2 items - the order with 2 items had 1 item that was available for next day shipping (Wednesday) and the other for Thursday. The other order with 1 item only, was promised for today (Wednesday).

They were clever enough to combine the items available from two separate orders into one box for delivery the same day (today). Very efficient, rather impressive.

The local guys could still win this, at least in the marketplace space. Someone gave the example of Allegro already. But there is another example Ebay vs Yahoo Auctions. Yahoo Auctions died out just about everywhere and Ebay took over, well except for Japan where Yahoo! Japan Auctions is king and Ebay had to withdraw.
