Amazon dot gone

I am sick to death of all the moaning, moaning, moaning :sick:which I read from my fellow South Africans. Are you all wanting to live in paradise where everything goes right, come on. So we have a problems, no different to other countries who have their own problems. DO you honestly think that it is only because of theft, which happenings everywhere on planet Earth, we are not unique (sorry to burst your bubble).....its financial baby....purely financial. Amazon is only interested in the bottomline....wake up!!! They don't care about you or "in the interest of the customer"..If you believe that then you also believe that man walked on the moon or pink elephants do hang from diasies on cliffs flowing with creamy dreamy chocolate (oh yes white chocolate)...(spitting sound)

The problem is that by keeping quiet about things is tantamount to supporting the wrongdoings, thus very quickly leading to a situation such as Zimbabwe is in today or the Xenophobia problem currently. The warning signs have been there for years.

If everybody keeps quiet, governments have achieved their number 1 objective, where they think for everyone and ensure a nice cosy life for their corrupt practices. Just think of where the world would be without the Revolution or other such events. Probably we would still be ruled by the French, Greeks or Romans?

Dumbass, we not asking for paradise, just basic facilities. You do realise that basic postal services predates the 16th centuary. Hell I would even be happy with no progress, but as it stand we are going in reverse faster than a moth to a flame.

Yes it is about bottom line, that is why they call it a "business". I know this may be a foreign concept to the likes of yourself, but nothing is for free. However the corollary to this is that you get goods in return. If a third party is picking it off the line then the 2 primary parties loose out.

Africa has historically shown that the modas operanda post liberation is:

Slappy's 10 step plan for running a Liberated African Country.
-----------------------------------------------------------
#1: Kick out the 'oppressor' that built your infrustructure, and in doing so the skills involved to maintain it. (Or impose legislation and targeted taxes that makes it impossible to live)

#2: Milk said infrustructure till it collapses.

#3: Ask foreign countries for help

#4: Label them racists when they turn you down or put in clauses that protect their investments.

#5: Tax your constituints to death.

#6: Murder the rest in the name of genocide.

#7: Sieze personal assets

#8: Redistribute assets among friends and those that further your cause.

#9: Stockpile a stack of cash for you post impending coup.

#10: Take you loot and split, moving over for the next communist dictator to have his go at stuffing things up further.

Optional Steps:
---------------
Label the world racist.
Start a new war with a neighbouring country
Form alligances with extremest nations and harbour international fugitives.
Redefine the word "democracy" to suite your needs.

Could actualy make a nice board game.

So Slappy.....your ten point plan doesn't happen anywhere else other than Africa!!? Hellooo anyone there.....What are you still doing in this seemingly unfriendly, can't get it right continent then. You are clearly a prognosticator, actually that would denote that you have special insight or knowledge. You are more like a prophet of doom. How quickly we forget.....our peaceful transition from a exclusive country to an inclusive country. From a disgusting, highly embarassing past to a slightly embarassed present and hopefully a non embarassed future. However to get to the latter we need some positiveness. I won't say that it is people like you that we don't need in this country, so I won't say it.
Ernstn I agree we cannot and shouldn't keep quiet, because "your city perishes when good men (women) keep silent", however it is the way things are said. Take Slappy for example, what Slappy says has merit but it is said with such negative intent, almost bordering on hopelessness, that Slappy will never be heard as Slappy will be seen as a moaner, whiner. Sad, very sad. Slappy's comments, like "dumbass" and "foreign concept to the likes of yourself" pre-supposes that I am uninformed or uneducated.....So I ask you who is the eutherian mammal here.......

Where is the stuff really going?

Well you all are quick to blast the post office, but is it really their fault. I have ordered probably more from amazon than all you combined, hundreds and hundreds of items, from the USA and the UK, and everytime the items did arrive. In matter of fact I could call the post office and they'd tell me exactly when it entered their offices and where the package was, and how long it would take to get to me. I'd say whenever it leaves amazon's shores till when it arrives at our post office that is the problem. Yes sure customs are slooowwww but then they do have one zillion items coming through them daily. And due to the shipping my stuff always arrived one month late.

But really how many are eyeing the amazon shipping dates, and mailing that it didnt arrive, so they ship another copy, and when the first one does arrive, you dont tell them you received it, but rather keep it and shut up. I'd like to ask the Post office to tell amazon.com maybe how many cases are there, where the client signs for both the original and replacement, without owning up to amazon, and shipping the one back to them. That I'd say is the biggest problem, not the Post Office. It's all the crooks trying to mess with amazon.

I am happy that amazon stopped to ship the items. Those of you that know Take2.co.za have noticed that they can provide you with those american launched games (note american flag, or the british flag, or the australian flag), and whatever you find at amazon, you can find at them, sometimes even far cheaper than from amazon.

LEts support the local businesses, lets encourage competition locally. That way we keep the money mostly here, thus reducing the current account deficit. Why cant we manufacture dvds and such stuff locally. Why do we ship the raw materials abroad for $5 a ton, and they sell it back to us as $3000 a ton. Cmon, let's be innovative, lets give Amazon some competition.

Hmmm so why don't YOU be innovative FIRST since YOU are the internet
Amazon buyer expert here. ^_^ Your contribution to the trade deficit
by your own admission is greatest.

To be honest, nothing personal, but if you're so clued up, why didn't you buy
from shops (in the US and UK) which retail and ship the same items to
SA for 66-50% of Amazon's price? :)

here, here. Finally someone with sense and some. I cannot agree with you more. I received my goods (last month) from Amazon in one piece and have never had a problem when ordering from overseas.
Here's a SLAP on the back and jolly good show old chap. Tally ho, tally ho.

PeterCH, we want to buy zone 2 cause all our DVDs and games are encoded for zone 2. According to the international law, unlocking your DVD to all zones is an illegal offence, we are only supposed to use zone 2 or region 2 products.............

Look at all the one post wonders that have sprung up lol. All we're asking for is a decent postal service, its really not much to expect. And buying from Take2 will also increase the current account deficit if they import the stuff. The real value in DVD's is in the intellectual property not the physical product anyway.

Why Region 2 and not 1?

Well Region 2 is limited to some American Govermental editing. Region 2 is usually free of editing. Ever noticed that there is more content on the Region 2 disc of the Matrix than the Region 1 disc. Because SA is more liberal we allow for the extras.

I have out of interest for the past 2 years been spending money more locally, via Musica, Take2, Look and Listen, BT Games, and XDVD. So yes I do love local competition, and I do buy locally

Why on earth do you put your Mac Specs on your profile? My home PC is stronger than that.

Really? I'd like to see that law.

Are you sure you bought the stuff from Amazon? I have only ordered from amazon once, but the date of arrival they gave me was Exact. We even had a public holiday the day before here, but I still got it the next day just as amazon has told me.

Hey Super Grand member, we all have to start at the bottom....you too were a junior first time poster....We will get there just have another 14 000 posts to do to catch up to you.
I agree with a basic postal service but one question when you post a letter does it reach its destination?
Trust me buying a few DVD's is not going to add significantly to the account deficit. There are bigger culprits, like people moving money overseas...selling rands for other currencies to name but a few.

Hmmm ... totally incorrect. Sorry but Un-Rated Region 1 DISKS are just
that UN-Rated. Go ahead and check out Caligula Region 1 Unrated.
In the UK however their BBFC does not allow UNRATED DVDs.

Americans only censor out child porn, everything else is OK, in fact
US even legally sells David Hamilton DVDs (look it up at Amazon) -- which would prolly be considered illegal (at one stage it was but US supreme court knocked it down) in the UK and be rated R18 with major
editing.

Why shouldn't I have a Mac in my profile? Let's keep the personal attacks on topic here.

You need to get your Anti-American attitude up to scratch there :).

What international law? There is no such law. Unlocking a DVD player is NOT illegal in any jurisdiction. Sorry YOU are allowed to UNLOCK your DVD player
or you can't find one, get a second DVD drive and use that for Region 1/
or import a DVD player from the US. However unlocking your own
equipment is NOT ILLEGAL. No end user has ever been sued or prosecuted
for it in any civil or criminal case anywhere.

Wonder if SAPO employees have access to myADSL?

Really? I'd like to see that law.

Yeah and Regions only work for video DVDs not games, least of all
PC games which don't even have NTSC/PAL limitations.

How can ppl be so naive that Region 1 is illegal to view in
SA? I mean people who've purchased more from Amazon then the
rest of us all combined?

Hi Syndyre...goto http://au.playstation.com/support/ps2/faqs/ps2_FAQ_dvd_region.jhtml, although it is specific around PS2 games etc it is the same for DVD's etc
Also try http://www.choice.com.au/viewArticle.aspx?id=105291&catId=100387&tid=100008&p=1&title=DVD+zoning
and this http://www.uhfmag.com/Issue61/Zoning.html

It all got to do with copyright infringements. Had to do some research when applying for copywriting a product (CD) of mine. There is also a commercial side to this zoning...

All that does not prevent you from buying a DVD from anywhere in the
world and playing it back. You're only not allowed to do what Mr Video
did. You can't parallel import movies from R1 (or R2 for that matter)
and resell them here (or SK will sue you).

Oh and BTW since u posted AU links, the AU gov has declared DVD Region
locking to be illegal in AU. France also considers it illegal. However
even in countries where region locking is not illegal, there are no
laws which prevent you from watching Out-of-region DVDs.
The Regions have usually nothing to do with it. I know one Company
CEO in the States who resells his products the world over, yet they
are Region 1 disks. I'm sorry but you are just wrong.

As for modding playstations, Sony may prevent that specifically but
DVD manufacturers don't sue ppl who mod their players, which btw
come out region free from China these days.
