Amazon hosting problems knock websites offline

A lot of sites are STILL effected by this downtime including half of our companies web sites.

SIGH...They keep telling us it will be back within 2-3 hours, once the 2-3 hours pass, they say we have ran into another random problem...been like this for the past 24 hours+ now. I am not paying them jack **** if for next month if its not fixed by today.

I guess in theory cloud services should be more stable, but in practice a big complex failure can cause a long outage due to added complexities and affect larger and more websites. It is not like bringing one server back up in the air.

How will we survive without reddit? Gah, I hate reddit outages but I think the productivity of the world's population increases ten-fold everytime reddit is down.

Especially during public holidays. But I agree, you just need to take that site + Facebook offline and the phone queues disappear all over the world.

I'm no server genius, but it seems to me Amazon could've avoided this by just hosting EC2 on Amazon S3.
