Amazon Shipping

I want to order a Casio calculator from Amazon that I can not find anywhere in SA. I found it on Amazon and it is sold by "Amazon Export Sales LLC". I get two shipping options:

  1. Monday, Mar. 8 - Wednesday, Mar. 31: ZAR 202.74 - AmazonGlobal Standard Shipping
  2. Wednesday, Feb. 24 - Monday, Mar. 8: ZAR 320.68 - AmazonGlobal Priority Shipping

My question is, who is responsible for delivering to my home address, SAPO or a courier?

Both will be with a courier. Standard is Aramex, but they currently suck and will probably lose your parcel or take a month to deliver.
Priority is DHL who are fast and reliable

Update on my order - my initial order never updated, so I cancelled it and re-ordered on the 9th of Feb. Current status is "package received by carrier", on 16 Feb.
My other order arrived quite quickly from Aramex. Ordered 3rd of Feb and I received it on 15 Feb.
I have another order using express delivery (today, 18 Feb).
Will update once my other two orders get here.
Update.
2nd Aramex delivery - Order placed on 9th Feb and delivered on 26 Feb. Took a bit longer than the first order.
DHL order - Placed on 18 Feb, delivered 1 March.

Is it still possible to order via Aramex on Amazon? Checked a few items, and only one shipping option is available now (priority shipping).

Rather just take it TBH. The hassle with Aramex isn't worth the R200 extra for Priority.

It’s all a hassle. It’s not always DHL, but could be UPS.

I’ve already had two lost packages from Amazon this year, one via DHL and the other UPS.

The only saving grace is that amazon will offer you a big discount on your next order for the inconvenience, and let you keep it if it is delivered/found eventually.

Ordered March 31st and received my package today with priority shipping. Quite impressed.

All my priority parcels have been through DHL for the past 3 years. My last UPS parcel was when I ordered the Xbox One S on launch day.

Last Parcel with Aramex took a good 2 months to confirm its lost and for the Amazon query thing to expire.

I guess it's about a hassle either way just DHL is less of one and they have a contact centre that is reachable and responsive. They can take my money purely based off of that. Won't be shipping with Aramex where I can avoid it, I long last got **** on time or in a timely manner from them.

Yeah I’m a little miffed that the monitor I got on a massive lightning sale won’t arrive.

Not sure why it takes two months for your refund, unless you are referring to the aramex forwarding service as I’m talking about directly from amazon.

My parcel is supposed to be here on 8 April, if not here by the 14th amazon will refund even if it does appear on the UPS system as received.

Hey guys.

I ordered couple items from Amazon and they shipped it with Aramex. I got a notification today that my parcel is being held at Customs, and an email from Aramex requesting 1 month Bank Statement that contains the transaction, my ID number, and Invoice. They also want an order form and packing list, which I don't have. They will then send the documents to Customs and Customs will decide if they need to open my package or can release it.

I'm worried about my privacy (ID number and Bank Statement) and want to know if what Aramex is requesting is the actual procedure and legally allowed, as I haven't had an issue before when ordering from Amazon.

Your ID number and name etc is used for clearance - this is normal and is usually included if you configured it when setting up your delivery address on Amazon's site. You can blank out balances and sensitive information on your bank statement (ie. the first part of account numbers, other transactions etc) and just send the Amazon order confirmation / invoice / whatever you have received or can print on the site. Customs is simply trying to match a payment to the declaration and does happen from time to time. People play the system by under-declaring items or using other peoples names and addresses to bypass limits etc.

It’s happened to me before as wel, but they insisted it was a full original bank statement.

Touch wood it doesn’t happen again as it was a shlep.

I ordered on 03 April and my parcel was delivered today. The UPS guy did not ask for any documentation or a signature and just handed the parcel to me.

UPS is the worse on amazon IMo. I ordered a monitor and they damaged it in transit. Never received it but was returned to amazon by them.

DHL deliver within 5 working days, have ordered on a Monday and receive it on the Saturday.

Aramex isn’t bad, I ordered something on 5 April and it’s out for delivery today.

I have dealt a lot with Aramex - and from my experience it’s either a hit or miss.

Last year 01 November I order a bunch of high-end electronics and some cabling and cheaper electronics as one order. However the shipment got split into two.

The first shipment with the cheaper items arrived within a week and a half. The second one was an absolute nightmare. Many phone calls and support tickets with no luck. The blame was always being pushed onto SARS.

The items only arrived nearly two months later towards the end of December.

Well, I'll change my tune on Aramex. In all honesty, I have never had an issue with Aramex. My goods from Amazon (mainly .com, and sometimes .co.uk and .de) have always arrived on time, if not before the due date.
However, I am waiting for some PC components, and while it landed in Sandton on 9th March and cleared customs (Shioment Cleared - On its way to Aramex Destination Facility), it's still in JHB.
I reached out to Aramex via their website and quoted the tracking number...silence. Not a peep from them.

Anyone here singing the praises of Aramex just hasn't used them long enough to experience their level of sh#ttyness.

Some of the things they do:
1) Lose your parcels. All the time. Then make you wait until the "promised" delivery date 1 month later before they'll concede to Amazon that it will never be delivered
2) If you have multiple parcels from them, they'll collect them before sending out the courier. For example. I had a delivery come today. But they already had some of my parcels in the Cape Town depot by Thursday last week. But they held them until more parcels arrived before delivering. They do this regularly.
3) I once ordered something from eBay and used my PO box. Company ended up using Aramex (didn't know). Aramex then bundled my orders like case 2 above but then didn't deliver. I eventually able to get hold of them and are told it is my fault they held all my deliveries because of the PO Box (sure makes sense for that 1 parcel right?). Problem is I have 3 other Amazon parcels they also held. I tell the lady that the other addresses are correct, so why didn't deliver those others parcels that are COMPLETELY unrelated to this 1 parcel. "Sir, you put the wrong address, we'll deliver next week" (this was a Thursday). Puts the phone down in my ear. They don't listen to reason, logic or anything like that. If they can get away with doing nothing, they'll do it. 0 f#cks given.

If you are going to refute my points, let me just say, I order nearly weekly from overseas sites, so please don't try lecture me about your great Aramex experience from your 1/2 orders per year. Bring data of your at least twice a month orders or it isn't comparable.

I would love to only use DHL and I always check what premium shipping will cost. And sometimes it is worth it, but sometimes it is like R1000 extra and that just isn't doable for me.

I order near weekly from Amazon.com and I never get this.
It is so weird they doing this to you guys.

For things from Aliexpress, sure, but from Amazon the whole thing has been super streamlined.
I even get customs refunds.
Something that I'm sure Aramex absolutely hates needing to do.

Yeah that is what people that sing the "Aramex" love songs don't get. It goes ok for some deliveries, and maybe you don't notice because you don't use them enough. But eventually they'll give you that uniquely Aramex™ experience.

DHL I've literally never had problems with and they are super fast. I mean I realise people have had issues with them and that I can see happening. But at least their 99% of the time experience is super fast.
Aramex the 90% experience for me is slow but acceptable, the 8% experience is crap (stuff like collecting parcels so they don't have to deliver every day) and the 2% is absolutely horrific. Like them losing a parcel and then making you wait months to get that sorted out.

Yeah that stage can take roughly 3-5 days lately. I was told when I called them that it means it is still going through clearance. Then if you live in Cpt, it'll spend another 2 days going from Jbh to Cape town. And then it'll take roughly another 1-3 days to actually get delivered.

So, the memory for my laptop arrived (G.Skills Ripjaw). It also arrived 2 weeks earlier than expected via Aramex. HOWEVER...it got stuck in JHB and was being shipped to my house for close on 2 weeks. And they never responded.
This would be the worst experience I have had with Aramex.

I've always used the Standard shipping option and have never had anything go missing. Delivery is always by the date promised by Amazon or earlier. I've never seen the need to spend extra on Priority.

Also if it is from Amazon then I don't need to deal with the shipping company. If a parcel did go missing then Amazon would sort it out. It's a no hassle process and I'm not going to die if I have a wait a bit longer for something.
