AMD announces fastest graphics card

Local users should not expect the HD5970 to come cheap. Currently the HD5970 retails for R3999, a rough guess for the new HD5970 is around R8000 – R9000.

Shouldn't it read "Currently the HD5870 retails for R3999," not HD5970 retails for R3999?

i can understand the logic behind xmas rush and all but don't u think that these cards being released so shortly after the 5850/70 models would have a negative impact on these two designs?

seems like they're takin a gamble before nvidia releases whatever they can come up with...
 
Shew, and i just purchased my GTX 260 BLACK EDITION, and now this, well, thing about this is 99% of the time, there is no Game to fully use this graphics, its for ppl who wanna overclock just to post a nice speed on 3d mark

I don't think there will be any negative effect. The 5870 and 5970 in completely different price brackets and are completely different cards.

This card looks like an absolute monster! When the i7's were released, I thought it would take a while for graphics cards to catch up, but seeing i7's be the bottleneck in games is astounding to say the least.

Crysis comes to mind and there are some others as well.
 
This is when i dont understand this country!!! :mad: how can this card be worth double here and every were else in the world it's the same price $599:mad::mad:

Well, 1stly, if a guy can just about afford a HD5870, he won't dare want to spend DOUBLE for a HD5970 ;).
So what AMD is doing, is making a hostile mark for Nvidia.

Now my guess is that AMD is trying to bring back their name, and make ATI a serious option for consumers (bright and dull). They fighting to get market share back, and with the release of cards in most of the price brackets they basically have made it super competitive for Nvidia's current range.

ATI have also added MORE features onto the HD5000, such as Eye-Infinity, which focuses on the gamer, but also for the graphic designer, and what not, so it's aiming to draw in tons of customers.

As for what Nvidia's releasing, well, ATI is pulling the finger on them, mooning them, pooping on them, and there's nothing Nvidia can do about it.

Sure ATI has all it's cards on the table, but it's a bloody good hand, and remember that with the problems at TSMC (the place that makes the actual processor chips), Nvidia won't be able to release their latest and greatest cards until about Feb (my guess), which leaves ATI having enough time to let the news of their new gfx cards spread, and get consumers ranting and raving over them... and ATI has most of their cards out during Christmas, so if they solve the stock issues, we shall see then earning a fair amount of money.

Furthermore, Nvidia can't do any updates nor anything else to their cards because they still trying to debug, it would simply take to long to redesign the chip, and then debug that one all over again, so what ever Nvidia was going to release before ATI rocked up, Nvidia is going to have to release those chips.

This leaves ATI with far more of an advantage then one would think. Remember, they have had a massive lead on release date, and come Nvidia's release date, all ATI has to do is drop the price of their products, and it's suddenly raining on Nvidia again. I'm not saying that Nvidia are out for the count this generation, however, what I am saying is that ATI came well prepared for them, and Nvidia, might expect even more competition (unless Fermi is a god send, and owns everything else, which it might, but I'm doubtful)

well, add 14% onto $599, add a greedy distributor, and then add on the fact that we don't order volumes of those cards, at most the distributor will order 10 HD5970s, because not many people play games, and not many people have that much cash...
 
All I can say is well done ATI, You truely have created a monster. ;)
 
Dual GPU graphics card. I would stay far away rather thanks. Unless dual GPU driver issues, motherboard compatibility, gaming issues, support etc are a thing of the past? I remember how much of an issue it was to try and fool my PC into thinking it was in SLI mode with Nvidia and then it turned out only one specific motherboard in the world could do that at the time. Then when it came to running certain games (eg Collin McCrea Dirt) there was all sorts of issues and compatibility problems.

haven't had any problems with my dual gpu ati card? :confused:
 
There's something sketchy about those readings from the benchmarks you posted. Have a look @ UT3. The FPS at a higher setting is higher than that at a lower setting :confused: surely it should work the other way round unless it's designed to work better at higher resolutions
