AMD announces fastest graphics card

I'm buying nobody any prezzies this year.... I just have to get myself this card.
 
Holy smokes! 3200 stream processors ?!
I'm quite happy with the 40 stream processors on my 4200 IGP :p
 
What's the Power requirements for this thing....I take it the usual 2 to 2.2 jiggawatts?
 
just an un educated question here. wouldnt it work out cheaper to get 2 5870's in crossfire that would give slightly mor power?

basically, what happens is that the processors (there's 3200 of the things :eek:) aren't fully loaded, so the cards aren't stressed out, so they some of the processors sit there idling.

Also, at lower FPS, you more CPU bound, so the limits you see are basically the amount the CPU can send to the processors. Then when you load up the settings, the processor (cpu) sends the same amount of data to the card, but more "stuff" is loaded onto the cards ram, so less stuff is needed to be sent to the card via the cpu etc.

But after looking at those benchmarks, I don't think my brain will be able to register the extreme awesomeness of what I'm looking at. Crysis @ 2560x1600 with 4xAA, with completely playable rate rates, wtf???
 
@Acidrain: Powerful cards like these actually "like" higher resolutuions, they perform better at a higher resolution, lowering the resolution for a powerful card like this actually bottlenecks it.

@Keeper: On idle its at 42w and under loads its 298w.

Wow that's low for a dual GPU man!
 
I know, it's crazy. The 5870 uses 300w under load, the 5970 has lowe clock rates thus bringing down the power. It has to do with keeping backward compatability with power with PCIE 1.0 where the PCIE slot supplys power or something like that. So they had to give the card lower clocks than the 5870 to bring power down, or something a long those lines.

Either way it's still really low and still 100w lower than the GTX 295 under load. :O

Depends on what price they sell for here in SA. In the USA the 5870 sells at $400 and the 5970 at $600, so for them the 5970 is a better option than crossfired 5870's.

The 5970 would only be worth it in SA if it sells for R7000 or less. Otherwise crossfired 5870's or 5850's are the better value option.

look at that chart! :eek: 74 fps - that's more than double what a gtx295 can do

So what AMD is doing, is making a hostile mark for Nvidia.

Now my guess is that AMD is trying to bring back their name, and make ATI a serious option for consumers (bright and dull). They fighting to get market share back, and with the release of cards in most of the price brackets they basically have made it super competitive for Nvidia's current range.

ATI have also added MORE features onto the HD5000, such as Eye-Infinity, which focuses on the gamer, but also for the graphic designer, and what not, so it's aiming to draw in tons of customers.

As for what Nvidia's releasing, well, ATI is pulling the finger on them, mooning them, pooping on them, and there's nothing Nvidia can do about it.

Sure ATI has all it's cards on the table, but it's a bloody good hand, and remember that with the problems at TSMC (the place that makes the actual processor chips), Nvidia won't be able to release their latest and greatest cards until about Feb (my guess), which leaves ATI having enough time to let the news of their new gfx cards spread, and get consumers ranting and raving over them... and ATI has most of their cards out during Christmas, so if they solve the stock issues, we shall see then earning a fair amount of money.

Furthermore, Nvidia can't do any updates nor anything else to their cards because they still trying to debug, it would simply take to long to redesign the chip, and then debug that one all over again, so what ever Nvidia was going to release before ATI rocked up, Nvidia is going to have to release those chips.

This leaves ATI with far more of an advantage then one would think. Remember, they have had a massive lead on release date, and come Nvidia's release date, all ATI has to do is drop the price of their products, and it's suddenly raining on Nvidia again. I'm not saying that Nvidia are out for the count this generation, however, what I am saying is that ATI came well prepared for them, and Nvidia, might expect even more competition (unless Fermi is a god send, and owns everything else, which it might, but I'm doubtful)

Not yet. Next year it will be the lowerend cards of the 5xxx series.
 
U think a 700W PSU will run one of these and where can I order? Dont give a flying **** what it costs. Crysis is my game. :)
 
Wow at ^.

A 700W PSU will handel it easily, assuming it's a decent make that is.
They'll be avaible next week in store and at etailers.
