Amobia uncapped question

Hi Guys

Would it be possible to access a DVR on our home network through a dyndns account if we were to use an Amobia uncapped package or would the allocated private IP prevent that?

You will be allocated a Private IP. Not sure about Dyndns but I've tried no-ip and it didn't work. On the other hand...services like logmein.com and teamviewer do work as they create a secure tunnel from your PC to there servers.

PS. I'm using their 1MB uncapped and its awesome BTW.

But the reason for using dyndns, is so that it doesn't matter what your ip is, it will always resolve to the correct one...

Correct, but this is if you are giving a public ip then it will resolve to the correct ip assigned to you from the ISP. In this case it won't as its a private IP and the only public IP given is from Amobia to their control centre / high site. I'm not sure on the technicalities but having tried it and not working this is how I see things working.

I think MDE is correct, WISP's normally NAT outgoing traffic and give out a private IP hence no connection from the public internet. As far as the "internet" is concerned all amobia clients have the same public IP. This is likely the situation, however if Amobia has a block of public IP's I'm sure they can arrange that one gets assigned to you, albeit at a fee.

Thanks, this is as i suspected, just needed the boffins on here to confirm. Amobia are looking at what they can do for me, also a sales manager was supposed to call me about their "transport" only package so I'll update here when i receive feedback for future reference.

Cool. I think on another thread someone asked Amobia if he could obtain a public IP for the uncapped account and they said no. But heck give it a bash and see what comes of it :)

BTW - What is the 'transport' package you talk of? Nothing on the website...

Not sure myself, was mentioned in passing by a sales consultant. Something about them providing the last mile access and another provider will provide internet access.

Hopefully that pricing of R100 per gig wont apply:wtf:

So in short Amobia aren't able to help. Their transport or last mile access packages are provided in conjunction with frogfoot networks. Unfortunately their packages are a little too expensive for a small business with a 2meg up/2meg down, 4:1 contention ratio, 10gig cap package costing R1150.

The search continues...

It is possible to remap the IPs - made the same mistake originally on our side... --- Why not go for an uncapped package from MapleTel. -

Hi All

No, it wont work using DynDns. The private IP specifically prevents connections from the outside.

The best product for accessing a DVR would definately be a capped account.

Our capped accounts come standard with a public IP.
