Johannesburg - The ANC said on Monday it was appalled by the South Gauteng High Court's ruling that ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema's singing of the words "shoot the boer" amounted to hate speech.

The words undermined the dignity of people and were discriminatory and harmful, Judge Collin Lamont ruled.

"No justification exists allowing the words to be sung... the words were in any event not sung on a justifiable occasion."

ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said the party viewed the judgment as an attempt to rewrite the South African history which is not desirable and unsustainable.

"This ruling flies against the need to accept our past and to preserve our heritage as an organisation and as a people.

"The ANC will carefully study the judgment and understand its full implications before releasing a much more comprehensive response.

"In the meantime we will respect the decision of the court while investigating options of dealing with this judgment.

"Then we will explore every possibility to defend our history, our heritage and our traditions.

How can they be appalled by a decision of the high court. Do they have no respect for the courts

Funny how "the need to accept our past" is only used when it suits them :/

So Afrikaans people should be able to call black people in SA k*****s?

I mean really? How stupid of the ANC to turn around and claim that this is part of their heritage  So it's ok for them to call for the murder of white people but God forbit anyone calling a black person a K****r in a moment of rage /facepalm

Don't post here with your logical tendencies. Agent.

I really don't know why we get shocked /gasp /gasp when the ANC says things like this.. I've come to expect it from them.. Which is quite sad in it's own right actually.

Haters, is gonna be hating.... no two ways about that.
The ANC is appalled that the court didnt accept their bribes....

Two wrongs don't make a right. As the judge says Racism should never be justified.

I must admit, I am disapointed by the ANCs reaction. Then again is this message from the party, not government.

Maybe they should take it a step up and go defend their history, heritage and traditions at the Hague and see what they think.

Of course it doesn't, but that doesn't mean that their wrong should legal while the another wrong isn't.

Well there's a difference here, boer/e is a socially accepted term so long as it's not attached to any threats of violence isn't it?

Will this be Moegoe Mogoeng's first task?

What ever gives you that preposterous idea? ;)

More like:

Information Act gets passed
Opposition takes it to con court
Con court says "we see no problem with it"
ANC wins.

Beke Cele & DPW head case continues
They get off the hook
Opposition takes it to con court
Con court says "we see no problem with it"
ANC wins.

Selebi / Shaik / McBride get presidential pardons
Opposition takes it to con court
Con court says "we see no problem with it"
ANC wins.

Nationalization is pressed on
Opposition takes it to con court
Con court says "we see no problem with it"
ANC wins.

Land grabbing without reimbursement goes ahead
Opposition takes it to con court
Con court says "we see no problem with it"
ANC wins.

White/Guilt tax bill gets passed
Opposition takes it to con court
Con court says "we see no problem with it"
ANC wins.

Should I continue?

That depends on who it's socially acceptable to. I'm pretty sure that it's meant as a derogatory term among black people.

So it's like the term "ni%%er" then? Okay for you to use it amongst yourself as long as it instils comradery but not okay if it's used in a derogatory fashion? Funny how some words have double meanings like that. I don't see "ka%%ir" as one of those words, nor have I ever heard it used in a similar context.
