Plans to constantly hassle new premier Helen Zille with issues across the province - in a bid to force her to take her eye off the ball - have been hatched by the opposition ANC.

This has emerged from a leaked report, in the possession of the Cape Argus, agreed to by the party at its post-election provincial lekgotla at the weekend.

*ominous music*

So much about being for the people, eh ANC? Maybe if they spent more time assisting in the governing of the Western Cape and less time intent on destroying Zille things might get done much quicker.

Not to sound ignorant, but is that not the job of the opposition? Nothing stated in the leaked report sounds ominous to me.

As long as they keep it to the legislature and press releases. Organised mass protests for political gain is hardly the job of a democratic opposition. We'll see how they proceed from here on.

Well the DA constantly hassles the ANC and Zuma with issues, so why not the other way round? I agree with Sox, they are the official opposition, it's their job to hassle Helen Zille with issues...

Dunno so much about that sox:
"This will spread her widely and thinly across the province, and weaken her ability to deal with all issues," the report said.

Now I'm fully for a strong, robust opposition, but should opposition be specifically undermining the function of goverment, or are they there to make sure government does what they are supposed to do.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems as if the ANC is planning on trying their utmost to make the Western Cape fail, when surely what they should be doing is ensuring that the Western Cape government delivers on all it's promises so that the people of the province are served adequately

Are the ANC not doing exactly what they accuse the DA of doing in every other province? "yapping away like so many chihuahua's" instead of being a part of the solution to deliver to the people who need it most

As I've said before, its happened before and it will happen again.
A spy network may seem silly but when you lose the province and can't deal with it, thats what the ANC does.

this "leaked report" looks suspiciously like an
opinion piece written by some pro-Zille guy on businessday a couple of days ago.
with the investigative abilities of our journalists, you can never know.

I think the DA has a problem. They've made a heap of promises and now have to find the time and money to deliver it. Zille is not coping well with the stress apparently and the opposition are baying. In time, we will see what the DA are made of. It may just be a humbling experience.

That sounds about right :p

Its not a problem, its the DA's job. They've already made inroads and released all owing monies to the City of Cape Town to start on their projects.

Watch this space, if there is one person who can deal with stress it is Helen Zille.

Word is she's losing it.

Whose word, yours? Lol. Suckboy you're a regular one man army.

Oh well I'm quite used to your statements without any evidence besides your own day dreams - its called trolling.

the thing that struck me most about this scheming is that on the face of it, it seems to be the ANC that they will highlight the areas of the WC that need attention. Bloody diabolical if that's true.

Um no, it's not. They are in government now. If they want to defeat the DA, they should be doing it by outperforming them, not by sabotaging the province. They're working directly against the people on ground level that they are supposed to be helping. The DA was democratically elected to rule the province.

This would be similar to saying you would have no problem if you discovered the DA was in fact spying on and attempting to undermine and sabotage the ANC national government via malicious sub plots in order to gain control of the country... oh wait, the law already has a different description for that kind of activity.

Sounds like treason to me.

No - he's quite right here. Look at the last two Zapiro cartoons, for example. One of them shows GodZille gnawing off her own leg.

I trust Zapiro's judgement. I have _faith_ in the man. There's a shower head on top of Jacob Zuma and Helen Zille is munching her thighs...

Helen had to deal with several attempts to take over the city, votes, legal processes, etc etc.
She survived and went on to win the World's Best Mayor Award.

A few harsh words on facebook or some spying or protests won't stop her.
